  • Codemasters has taken a heavy handed stance with RMT companies and people who use this mode of gameplay. Real Money Trading will not be sanctioned nor tolerated in this one so if you feel the need to deal in it, I'd advise picking another game.

As you know, Ten Ton Hammer took the stance in January that we would no longer sell adspace to gold traders or any secondary market company. So, with that said, we applaud Codemasters for standing by their policy.

    Greetings, Citizens of Novus.

Today, following a brief investigation which began on a tip from an anonymous Bellato from spirit server, we have suspended over 170 accounts involved in a major RMT operation.

I would like to make it clear that a number of our investigations come from the valuable contributions you the players make, who spend enough time in Novus to recognize the patterns normally associated with these groups. Your help is invaluable, and we thank you.

Please remember to report suspicious activities at: http://cogsupport.codemasters.com/

  • New Square multi-platform MMO for PS3 and Windows Vista?

Square-Enix producer Hiromichi Tanaka announced an as-of-yet unnamed MMO that will cross the two aforementioned next-gen platforms. Tanaka also refused to allay rumors that Final Fantasy XI, which crossed to a third platform this week (XBox 360), might be released on the PSP.

Tanaka didn't provide any details on his as-yet untitled game for Vista and the PS3, perhaps holding something back for a formal announcement at E3 in May. He did make some interesting comments about developing for the Xbox 360 versus the PlayStation 3.

  • Second MMORPG Hits XBox 360

According to Game Feed, a title dating from the Sega Master System days, Phantasy Star Online, will have an MMO present on the 360.

SEGA Studios must have figured they’ve kept their fans waiting long enough. It’s hard not to have ever heard the name Phantasy Star if you’ve been a Sega Genesis (or even a Master System) owner/fan back in the golden gaming era. Phantasy Star Online, a title that goes down in history as the first ever videogame console MMORPG (it also precedes ‘Final Fantasy XI’ in being the first-ever multi-platform MMORPG. Episodes I and II are playable on each of the PC, Dreamcast, Xbox, and Gamecube gaming platforms.)

  • New version of MMOGcharts released

Bruce Sterling Woodcock has tracked active subscriptions to various MMOs for years, and though the data's far from perfect (ever since World of Warcraft rocket-like rise into the millions, developers have become increasingly tight-lipped about the size of their subscriber-base) we have a fresh picture of the market as of last week. As reported by Joystiq:

The green line leaping towards infinity is World of Warcraft -- the yellow and red curves, declining slowly, are Lineage and Lineage II respectively. Many of the others stop in 2005, so it's hard to get an accurate up-to-date picture, but the light blue line representing Runescape seems to be finally taking off, cresting the 500,000 barrier -- an impressive feat for a game started by a couple of students.

  • Getting to the core of the matter.
Apple has posted a list of MMOGs that are natively available for the Mac, briefly describing such games as World of Warcraft, Second Life and World War II Online. With the release of Boot Camp that list just got a lot bigger. Boot Camp allows the new Intel Macs to dual boot to Windows XP.

"Massively multiplayer online role-playing games let you play with and against hundreds or even thousands of other players over the Internet, engaging in activities that even a solo, offline experience can’t match, since live human beings are more unpredictable than computer-controlled characters. And, as our introduction demonstrates, MMORPGs take place in a wide variety of settings, enabling you to participate no matter what type of game world interests you."

  • MMORPG.com has an interview with Legend of Ares lead designer June Lee.

MMORPG.com: What sets this game apart from all of the other MMORPGs currently on the market?

June Lee: One of the more unique qualities of the Legend of Ares is the warfare system. While there will still be the normal PvP encounters between players of opposing nations, there will also be a territorial warfare system implemented where players can participate to increase their nation’s size, honor, and abilities. Territorial wars will be organized events where players of both nations will have to sign up to participate. The ultimate goal of the T-wars is, as the name implies, to win areas of the map for each nation. Every area, once controlled, will bestow bonuses on the players of the winning side such as boosts to exp gain, money gain, attack power, and defensive ability. In addition to this, players of either side can also gain bonuses by increasing the number of enemies killed from their rival nation(honor points).

    Go check it out.

  • There are new screenshots for Vanguard at Vanguard Crafters.

Someone mentioned on the other day that Vanguard was taking on a WoW'ish look. Methinks that they're blind. It still has that fantasy realistic look that the Sigil team is known for.
