  • The MMO formerly known as...

The only MMO that could help you lose your rent money in a single night of play is getting a facelift. That's right, the MMO formerly known as "Project Entropia" is now Entropia Universe. I'm not sure the new name compels me to ante up, but hey, it's cheap press.

Project Entropia, the fastest growing virtual universe utilizing a real cash economy, today announced the next phase in its evolution to become the ultimate virtual community, "Entropia Universe" (www.entropiauniverse.com.) The new name embodies the concept of Entropia Universe as more than just another MMORPG, but rather a complete virtual world with the unique identifier of allowing players to utilize a RCE (Real Cash Economy). The built-in RCE links the internal Entropia Universe economy to that of a real world through a fixed exchange rate of $1 USD for 10 PED (project entropia dollars).

  • The local boys are famous! NetDevil is featured prominently in the latest issue of the Denver Business Journal, including various quotes from NetDevil and NCsoft staff, in an article discussing the development of Auto Assault and the MMOG industry.

With Auto Assault, players customize their own combat vehicles, control the weaponry for their own artillery and develop their own characters -- whether they're robots, humans or a combination of both.

Jeremy Gaffney, vice president of product development for NCsoft's U.S. division in Austin, Texas, said Auto Assault should appeal to both "aging geeks" who fondly remember the car-related video games of the 1970s and '80s and the young geeks who've never played such games.

Auto Assault Launches this week for the late starters. If you want some really great information on the game, visit our Auto Assault Community Site.

  • We have for your reading pleasure, the Editors Edition Chris Klug Interivew.

I had the pleasure of listening to the audio interview recorded at the Game Developers Conferece this year between Chris Klug, Creative Director at Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment and our very own Nicole Hamlett and Jeff Woleslagle .

It is quite possibly one of the most interesting interviews I have had the good fortune to listen to and that says something. Our original article on the interview can be found right here. I've been in the gaming industry for 12 years. Believe me when I tell you that not every game designer is meant to give interviews. Chris Klug on the other hand, could keep you hanging on every word.

  • Er, what I meant to say was the Watching Stone. It's a new bestiary update for you today.

Statues throughout Middle-earth are not always what they seem. The very stone of some statues hold the trapped spirit of malice within, crafted by the Dark Lord long ago with skilled workmanship and dark ritual. These ominous statues act as sentries and alarms within the realm of Angmar and throughout the lands corrupted by the shadow. Within many of the ruins throughout Eriador and Arnor, in lands once controlled by the darkness of Mordor's reach, these watchers remain, ever-vigilant even after centuries of abandonment.

  • The official Age of Conan site has a new archetype preview. This time they're focusing on the Thief.

Unconventional and devious fighters, characters in the Thief Archetype are those intent on causing maximum harm to their opponents through any means necessary.

These classes are not the disciplined soldiers of the warrior archetype, but cunning and often vicious opponents that their enemies would be unfortunate to meet in one of the many dark corners of Hyboria.

  • This summer the City of Heroes comic will be going bi-monthly and heading in an exciting new creative direction!

After completing the storyline involving the Heroes of W.I.S.D.O.M., the comic will switch from three issue arcs to single issue, self-contained stories that focus directly on events that have happened, are happening or will happen in the City of Heroes game itself.

To celebrate this new direction we are kicking off a Comic Book Storyline Contest! All players will be able to submit a single story concept - the winner’s idea will be turned into a script by Sean “Manticore” Fish. This contest will begin in early May, so start thinking of ideas now! Stay tuned for more details.

If you love getting those comics in the mail this is good news indeed!

  • The official Chronicles of Spellborn site has a detailed explanation of character statistics.

    Attributes
The basis of the characters statistics are the three main attributes being Body, Mind and Focus. These main attributes are linked to the class archetypes. Warriors have body as basic attribute, rogues have the focus attribute and casters have the mind attribute.

This is definately a good read if you're going to play the game.

  • Most of the information for this game has come from MMORPG.com. However, GamersInfo.net has an interview with Africa creator Tracy Spaight.

GamersInfo.net: Your intent is to make it possible for the players to affect the ecology in such a way that they can cull herds of gazelle or remove prides of lions completely from an area and as long as they maintain vigilance, that area will remain so.

Tracy Spaight: The model is much along the same lines as Richard Garriott and Raph Koster when they designed Ultima Online. However, they didn't realize at the time that the players would go out and slaughter everything that moved. What happened is it broke the ecology model because the players killed everything they encountered; then there was the behavior of the creatures - if you were shooting arrows at a deer it would run up and butt you with its head! It didn't turn and flee.

If the deer had some environmental awareness it's going to know you are coming, go to the herd and they're going to leave. So, our creatures we're going to try and design a bit more intelligently. Our intention is that we're going to make it so it's going to "feel" like a real ecology. It will be a lot more dynamic. Yes, if you kill of the predators, you're going to get a bunch of herbivores…and I don't know, perhaps that's going to lead to them overrunning all of the fields and now you're going to have to maintain that.
