  • Oh those busy little beavers! There is a new dev preview of Burning Crusade at the official site.

    Despite the myriad terrors that lie within, adventurers are still drawn to Karazhan - tempted by rumors of unspeakable secrets that may be found
    within the tower's arcane libraries. It is said that the vast, magical halls house the powerful spellbooks of Medivh himself.

    Only one thing is certain when visiting the dreaded tower of Karazhan...

    ...you may never find your way out.

    The decrepit tower of Karazhan once housed one of the greatest powers Azeroth has ever known: the sorcerer Medivh. Within its halls and corridors, he summoned all manner of otherworldly beings, researching magics no other would dare touch. Karazhan now stands abandoned; with its master gone, the monstrous
    things and untamed powers have grown unchecked, waiting to pounce on whoever is brave or foolish enough to enter its halls. Forge a group of ten stalwart adventurers and journey to the wasted land between Duskwood and the Swamp of Sorrows known as Deadwind Pass, where the mystical tower lies. Only the strongest need apply: only those who have achieved level 70 are skilled enough to face what lies within. Prepare for:

    * Boss encounters scripted to unveil the mysteries of Karazhan and challenge your skill as a team;
    * Dozens of new items from the vaults and experiments within the tower;
    * Brand new monsters, the likes of which Azeroth has never seen;
    * And much more!

    *Squeals* I wish they'd hurry up and release the thing! I want to play!

  • MMORPG.com has the latest Heroes Journey Dev Journal and Screens. This one features Stephanie Shaver, Designer, Webmaster, formerly GameMaster Rowan of DragonRealms.

    Those of you who have played tabletop RPGs like Vampire: the Masquerade, D&D, or GURPS know what a GameMaster (or DungeonMaster) is. For you newcomers who've never experienced the thrill of sitting around for eight hours while your character sat in a "charmed" state and ran around the map slaughtering the rest of your party members, allow me to explain.

    A GameMaster, in the purest sense, is the person who builds the scenarios, monsters, non-player characters, world, and mechanics that their players must grapple with. Now, for those who have the money or friends with money, there are shortcuts. Nearly every GameMaster uses an already-established gaming system (though they may mod it to their own tastes). Some GameMasters build their own world using popsicle sticks and bits of twine, and some use a well-known world like Faerun or the Rifts universe to set their campaign in.

  • Now, imagine this.. Daikatana online. Am I joking? No, I'm afraid that I'm not. John Romero has announced that he's going to make an MMO.

    7:17 In summer 2005, John Romero's stint at Midway came to an end. The ex-id Software and ex-Ion Storm staffer had joined the company in 2003 as Creative Director and was involved with Gauntlet project Seven Sorrows. Shortly after his departure, he stated he was "looking at lots of exciting developments" but added that it'd be a few months before he announced his next destination.

    CVG has more on this story.

  • Gamer God interviews SOE's Chris Kramer

    Chris Kramer:
    The key factor for our company is continued growth. Over the years, Sony Online Entertainment has gone from 100+ people in San Diego creating history with the original EverQuest to nearly 700 people in San Diego, Austin, TX, Seattle, WA and Taiwan working on online PC games such as EQ, EverQuest II, Star Wars Galaxies, The Matrix Online and PlanetSide, as well as PS2 (Champions: Return to Arms, EverQuest Online Adventures) and PSP titles (Untold Legends: The Warrior’s Code and Field Commander). For our company to continue to grow and be successful, we are breaking out of our North American-centric development focus and embracing genres and design ideas that appeal to players on a global perspective.

    If you've never had the chance to meet Chris he's a seriously cool guy. Go read the interview.
