  • Hot Feets!

Samyel on the TTH Guild Wars site looks at a ranger that does a little bit of everything. Poison, crippling, interrupts, traps and energy management. The only thing this versatile build doesn't do is heavy damage, but really, with such a big bag of tricks, damage is something you can leave to your team mates. Read the details here.

When you engage the enemy, cast Apply Poison and start liberally dishing out arrows. Switch targets depending on who is being the biggest nuisance: Crippling Shot goes on warriors, while Distracting Shot and Savage Shot are excellent for harassing casters. If the fight focuses on one area (say, a Flag Stand or on a flight of stairs) take the time to plant traps under your enemy’s feet.

  • Good News Everyone! For those of you who have been dying to beat the peanuts out of the good/ evil side you now have your chance. SOE has a new development update explaining the PVP system that is coming with their new expansion Kingdom of Sky.

As you may already know, Player-versus-Player combat is coming to EverQuest II! It is currently planned to launch simultaneously with Kingdom of Sky, the second EQII expansion. PvP will take place on new PvP-ruleset servers named after famous dragons in Norrath. Everyone will have the opportunity to start fresh on a PvP server and be a part of the escalated conflict between Freeport and Qeynos.

Hmm.. now I'm pondering whether or not I should restart my account and suck at PVP in two games at once.

  • For a minute I panicked. I had that horrid clenching of the stomach and felt like I may just spew. However, Game Still On! Gamasutra reports the details

Though not specifically mentioned, it appears that Bethesda’s acquisition of the license will have no effect on Perpetual Entertainment’s currently in development Star Trek Online massively multiplayer role-playing game. Many multiformat media licensors, such as Marvel, have treated massively multiplayer online games as a separate issue in the past.

When I read that I breathed a sigh of relief. That's all that matters. *comes down off of her ledge*

  • Smed has a new blog available for your viewing pleasure.

John Smedley ("Smed"), president of Sony Online Entertainment, kicks off the new SOE company blog with his thoughts on the PC gaming industry as a whole, as well as PC Gamer's recent decision to stop accepting ads from unsanctioned online game auction sites. The blog will feature insight and commentary on the video game industry from a more personal perspective from multiple SOE contributors.

You can read the blog, and subscribe to it for updates, at blog.station.sony.com

Oh sweet IRONY! The latest and greatest is Smedley praising PC Gamer for their move to take secondary market sales ads off of the mag. Why go through IGE when you can just spend your money at the Station Exchange?

  • If you want an interview done right, you just have to do it yourself. That's what the team of Chronicles of Spellborn have done. They've interviewed their graphic artist Chris Evenhuis and this is the result

What is your part in the Chronicles of Spellborn project?

I mainly design human characters, creatures, monsters, animals, armor and clothing. Sometimes I do world design, but most of that was finished when I joined the project. I take part in the ongoing discussions of fitting the design elements in the overall Spellborn world since those decisions have a lot of effect on the final design of those elements. Also a lot of technical stuff is involved in my work since my sketches need to be build in 3D by the modelers and I need to work within the 3D software to finalize the textures on the models since I do a lot of texture design too.

It's always interesting to take a peek at these behind the scenes people. Go peek for yourself.

  • It looks like Iowa and not surprising, Utah are jumping on the bandwagon to ban the sales of violent games to minors. Game Politics has the story.

Hogue's bill, HB 0257 is quite a bit different from most laws crafted to prevent kids from purchasing violent video games. Perhaps in response to the increasingly-heard "violent games as porn" drumbeat, Hogue's measure is designed to amend an existing Utah statute which makes distributing pornography and explicit nudity to minors a felony. Hogue's proposal adds "inappropriate violence" to the porn law.

Welp there you go folks. We're being lumped together with porn.

I'm going to go que up my "bomp chickee bom bomp" music and see you folks at the swingers club.

  • Gamer has a QNA with Turbine about the soon to be released title Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach.

Don't you think that we're on the verge of entering another MMO games overflow? How many more games do you think that the market can sustain before it implodes?

Not really. The only major subscription MMO released since the since the end of 2004 was City of Villains, and it's not even a fantasy game.

I think some players will always feel that there's a game overflow, but that's just because they're good games out there these days. No one, not even the unemployed college student, can play them all. At the same time, no entertainment industry ever lost its way by providing good choices to the customer. As new games continue to grow the MMO marketplace, it will have room for more games, not fewer.

And folks... You can also read it in Hebrew. It just doesn't get any better than this.

  • Mine with your mind!
EVE Online has long been favored by truly casual players (for its offline training system friendly to those with little time to level) and truly hardcore gamers alike (hardcore gamers enjoy the game's intense PvP action). But if you play EVE and need some in-game money-- who doesn't?-- you need to mine some asteroids! Ten Ton Hammer's own "General" Lee usually takes a background role, whipping up the vast array of fine graphics you see on our network. But Darren comes to the forefront to share some of his EVE mining secrets!

The objective of this series is to cover the mechanics of the fine art of mining in EVE. I'll touch upon some of the trials and tribulations that I've encountered going through the process as a Galantie character. I've taken a distributed approach to exploring the different aspects of the game. My expertise in mining is not complete but after a year of play, it's fair to say that I've learned a few tricks.

All of the points made below are from the perspective of a solo miner. If you're a member of a thriving corporation that always travels in packs then most of the issues below will not apply. If you're like me and don't have time to support yet another demanding relationship in your life and simply want to fly around in space in your spare time then the info below might aid in the "fun" side of the experience.

Check out Darren's mining guide here!
