  • Did you know that today is Officially the WORST DAY OF THE YEAR? It's true. I watched it on Good Morning America this morning. They wouldn't lie to me.

(On a side note, how weird is it that they've actually picked a day for this stuff?)

Therefore pull yourselves together. Climb back into bed and then meet me back here tomorrow.

*pat pat, nudge nudge* It will all be ok

  • My Fave place for funny is having an Auto Assault Beta Event.

NCSoft decided to give us as many keys as we had readers who wanted to try it, so if a Mad Maxy sorta Car Wars MMO is up your alley you might want to give it a looksee. They do need an e-mail you can check to send out your key, but other than that the whole process is pretty straightforward.

Go check it out and laugh with me at their latest strip.

Check out our Auto Assault Site!

  • Looks like Sony is going to try to hit the free sub model that has made Guild Wars so popular.

    Hello all,

For the next few weeks we are continuing to work on the "Subscription Free" service. For those of you that have not seen the explanation of this service, I'll list it out for you here.

    Subscription Free - "Fodder Program"
New Players will be able to create a new account and and play for free for a period of 12 months. The new account will have limitations on the BattleRank (+ or - BR8) and the CommandRank (+ or - CR2). Essentially, new players will be able to have access to any part of the game but they will be limited on the diversity of their arsenal. Time Frame – We are shooting for February 14th for Launch.

Unfortunately they're a bit late to hop on that bandwagon and I'd really like to see them make it REALLY free.

  • With the game into Beta 2, everyone is on the edge of their seats to see what will and will not happen with this game. MMORPG.com was lucky enough to get an Interview with Brad McQuaid CEO of Sigil Also they have 2 exclusive screenshots for your purveyance.

MMORPG.com: Can you explain how raiding will work in Vanguard, given that there is no instancing? Would it be fair to assume that there is a very large amount of raid content?
    Brad McQuaid:

The majority of content in Vanguard will be group-oriented, with the minority being aimed at either more casual gameplay or the opposite, raiding. I don’t have exact numbers, but perhaps 60% or more of the content is targeted at the grouping audience, with another 20% or so at the more casual and then another 20% at raiding. The way to get around the need for “instancing” is simply to have enough content. There needs to be a lot to do, and a large world in which to do it. We plan to achieve this by creating a huge, seamless world, with every square foot filled with points of interest, quest content, and a myriad of dungeons.

By having both a large world and a lot of content, including huge dungeons designed to support multiple groups at the same time, we are confident that instancing those areas won’t be necessary. We feel that instancing removes the opportunity to socialize with other people, or to just stand back as an observer and watch a large group in an intense battle. We do appreciate though that people don’t want senseless downtime and we have a trick up our sleeves on this very point that we feel large groups will love.

  • Of course I say this completely tongue in cheek. I could care less if they took all of the booth babes, locked them up in a room together and fed them chicken feed until they burst through the room in a flurry of cellulite panic. Bitter? Not really. I just go to E3 for different reasons than most. I call it a side effect of being a girl. However, I digress.
IGDA's Sex SIG is reporting on the new rules for this year's E3 Expo concerning those beloved Booth Babes.

aterial, including live models, conduct that is sexually explicit
and/or sexually provocative, including but not limited to nudity, partial nudity and bathing suit bottoms, are prohibited on the Show floor, all common areas, and at any access points to the Show. ESA, in its sole discretion, will determine whether material is acceptable.

Thanks to GameCloud for the link.

What do you think about this? Are booth babes a must?

  • The CEO of Runestone Game Development talks about the danish MMORPG ‘Seed’, which neither uses a combat-system nor standard quests. Can’t work? ‘WoW’ is the spearhead of innovation? Then you should read further which interesting alternatives ‘Seed’ might offer – and to what kind of player this game could be adressed.

Apropos swords: As you just said, ‘Seed’ does not have a combat system at all. No elves, dwarfs, dragons - and no battles. What is the clue behind your thoughts. Or are you just crazy?

We are quite crazy. It helps in this business. We are not crazy enough though, to think that we can beat the likes of Sony and Blizzard at their own game, so we decided to cater to another segment of players instead. We want to be a game that caters primarily to role players, secondarily to crafters. Also, this is the kind of game we really want to make. If we put in a combat system, this would risk to move the focus away from role play and crafting.

Crazy... crazy like a fox! Will seed breathe new life into the MMO standard? Read it and decide for yourself!

  • Turbine has posted a Hunter Class update on the Official Lord of the Rings Online site.

Woodsman, pathfinder, and master of the bow, the keen-eyed Hunter can use her arrows to devastating effect from a distance. Archery is not the only thing the Hunter excels at, for she can lead her companions through the forest at greater speed than they could on their own, and can set up traps to ambush enemies. The archer is no close-quarters fighter, however, and would generally rather let her bow do the work than resort to her sword.

The Hunter will be the class of choice for players who enjoy striking a target at range. Clever by nature, the Hunter is known to lure her targets into traps to hinder them, giving her time to use her bow to deadly effect. A Hunter's knowledge of nature also provides skills that help her and her fellows survive in the wild. A Hunter's combat style depends on her ability to injure others while staying out of harm's way.

Take of your bows and get ready!
