  • Being a Lead Designer

MMORPG.com has posted a new Dev Journal for Dreamlords today. This one gives us a look at what being a Lead Designer is all about.

These two incidents are the direct causes of my current job as Lead Designer of Dreamlords. See, in this position you need two things:

    * A passion to make the best game in the world. Ever. Ever ever ever ever.
    * The knowledge that if you don’t know where everyone is, always, they will crush your skull.

The skull crushing is serious, and if you’re not careful it will happen several times a day. I will explain what the life of a Lead Designer can look like, skipping “irrelevant stuff” like meetings, planning, balancing, content creation, lore writing, community work, etc. I’ll bullet-point it to make it crystal clear.

I’m going to answer some questions here, in typical FAQ style. It’s going to be very informal, and you MAY find yourself laughing at some point… don’t worry, this is normal.

    1. Why do you have to patch so much after launch? Shouldn’t you be done?

The official site for EverQuest II has been updated with this summary of the SOE Summitt recently held in San Diego. Don't miss a word!

The following day I eagerly arrived in the afternoon (amazingly, without a speeding ticket!) I missed a good chunk of the lively banter, but I was in time to plop myself down in-between Coyote and RadarX from Ten Ton Hammer and listen in on the Podcast/Blog/Fansite discussion.
