  • The Lord of the Rings Online Official site has updated another of their classes. This time they focus on Captains.

    Captain
    Races: Man

'And this I also say: you are our captain and our banner. The Dark Lord has Nine. But we have One, mightier than they. . . .'
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, "The White Rider"

Bearing her banner into battle, a Captain provides hope and leadership to her fellows, inspiring them to greater deeds. A skilled Captain can rally a party back from the brink of defeat, or seal a victory against many foes. While a Captain is a respected fighter on her own accord, she is primarily driven by her powerful sense of leadership to those fighting around her.

The Captain will be the class of choice for players who enjoy supporting their fellows while participating in melee combat. With her unique ability to plant banners to increase the battle prowess of those near them, the Captain helps to define where a fight will happen. Her battle cries allow her to take advantage of certain events in combat to aid the morale or combat ability of her fellows. A Captain's style of combat focuses on inspiring those around her to glory.

This class sounds familiar.. Hmm what could it be?

  • Working Title interviewed Jessica Mulligan of Asheron's Call and Ultima Online fame. The interview focuses on her new project Saga of Ryzom. I tittered a little at this question. But hey.. I'm a titterer

Was ‘Ryzom’ your very first project?

‘Ryzom’ is the company’s first game, yes, although we hope to do other games in the future.

    … and for you?

… for me, personally, this is far from my first project (laughs). I’ve been in the industry 20 years and worked on over a dozen MMOs, including Ultima Online and the Asheron’s Call series.

It's short but it gets the message out there. Ms Mulligan is poising to work her magic for Nevrax.

  • RickSaada posted a new developer log on the Official Site today. This one deals with the tool PBSedit. He talks of the change of focus and how that changes what they're doing with the tools and the backend.

Hi again, folks! I know I’ve been silent for a loooooong time, but I’ve been quietly plugging away on tools for the rest of the team. Changes in focus made the old terrain system I’d been working on obsolete, replaced with the custom 3D geometry you’ve seen the gorgeous screen shots of, so we started over with the tool set as well. A major focus of any MMP is content. People want it, and lots of it, so the ever growing content team under Rev is working on cranking it out. The primary tool they’ve been using for creating it is PBSEdit, which has been my main focus for the last year and a half, and now it’s time to take the wraps off. This dev log is the first in a series where I will be showing you a bit of what’s under the hood of PBS, and how the content team is putting together the game you’ll be playing.

  • Considering that these poor settlers haven't had much chance to play I think that this is a nice gesture from NP Cube. They stress that Settlers are NOT paying at this time.

We thought it useful to remind you that subscribers to the Pioneers of Ganareth offer have acquired a package, which contains:

    - A numbered account and a Dark and Light activation key. The game will be released during April 2006.
    - A one month subscription to Dark and Light.
    - Exclusive advantages in Dark and Light but also in Settlers of Ganareth, and the possibility to transfer part of what they acquired while playing Settlers of Ganareth to Dark and Light when it is released.

They have not, in any way, paid for Settlers of Ganareth. Settlers of Ganareth is a free game to which we have given some restrictive and preferential access, since it is an essential step towards Dark and Light.

The technical problems we have been encountering since the launch of SoG. Especially the massive attacks that have forced us to turn our servers off temporarily may have generated a sense of dissatisfaction that we perfectly understand and that we wish to rectify.

Consequently, we have decided to accept, until the 7th of January (included), all reimbursement requests.

For administrative reasons, we are asking you to please confirm your intent by sending an email to account@darkandlight.com and copy-pasting the following sentence: “I the undersigned, Last Name First Name, am asking for the reimbursement of my Dark and Light key, hence for the cancellation of my Pioneers of Ganareth account opened under the name Nickname”.

The accounts that have been repaid will be put back on sale in the course of January for those who were unable to be a part of the first group of Pioneers.

  • Life isn't happy without Auto Assault!
    MMORPG.com has
Happy Hour! In Report #3, we learn about crafting.

In week three Laura learns about crafting

The time has come for the final Roadhouse in the AutoAssault Roadhouse: Happy
Hour. Joined by NetDevil’s Ryan Seabury (Design Director), Brian Booker
(Lead Systems Designer), Matt Shaffer (Systems Designer) and our usual hostess
NCSoft’s Valerie “Pann” Massey, we discussed crafting in
    the world of AutoAssault.
In a nutshell: the post-apocalyptic world of AutoAssault, you don’t
create new items; you fix the old. During your adventures you will find broken
weapons, armor, wheels, chasses, etc. that can only be fixed through the crafting
disciplines, using various commodities that you find in the world and refine
    into usable crafting components.
Confused at all? Want more details? You’re in luck, because we’ve
    got plenty.
Let’s take it from the start. Crafting is broken into disciplines,
and to craft something you have to know the discipline of that object. The
first thing you do is visit the trainer in your discipline of choice. As a
basic, beginning crafter you can either work with Projectile Weapons, Armor,
or Power Plants. As you progress through these disciplines you unlock new
ones, from Advanced Weapons and Advanced Armor to Hazard Kits and Chasses.
For now, though, your trainer will unlock the discipline, and probably send
you on a tutorial to gather components and make a sample item.

Auto Assault is so cool! April needs to hurry up and get here!

  • Oh joy! Now I get to worry that the obnoxious 13 year old down the street may get the crazy idea to pop a cap in my ass! Yeah! It annoys me that pushing the envelope and all out obnoxious violence have to be one and the same. Ok enough of my ranting. Ogaming has an interview with APB's Lead Designer Stephen Hewitt

OGaming: Why shouldn't we dismiss the title as just another Grand Theft Auto game?

"Stephen Hewitt: We'd sulk. No, really. All this creative effort and make something derivative? When Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone did the Arbroath Enquirer ask if it was just another 'pony-express guy on a horse?' OK, it's maybe not going to revolutionize telecommunications as we know it (after all, the telephone was an invention so profound it paved the way to the 'Crazy Frog'), but Dave, our Managing Director, has already been there. He doesn't need to do another GTA.

You can read the rest and be happy in life.

  • Top Model in MMO?
Er, whatever... this is kind of interesting and it caught my eye. GamerGod
has an article titled "Orgrimmar's Next Top Model". I had never heard of this
before and the results are, well, interesting to say the least.

After the last season of Orgrimmar's Next Top Model, you will notice the
winners of the Horde side and still the champions: the Undead.

    Whatever you say pal...

  • As Napoleon Dynamite would say... "Luckiieee!"
    MMORPGDot.com
has a link to Yahoo Games.
Doesn't sound very impressive but they are featuring a preview of Dungeons and
    Dragons Online: Stormreach!

Yahoo Games' Chris Hudak takes a look at Turbine's forthcoming sure-to-be-a-blockbuster
    title, Dungeons and Dragons Online.

The last thing Turbine (and their inspirational partners, Wizards of the Coast)
wanted to do was to give the gaming world yet another generic, aimless, newbie-snubbing,
player-griefing, stat-grinding MMORPG and stuff it into a vaguely D&D-ish
skin. Lead designer Ken Troop likened the experience of MMORPG grief to having
a gaggle of jerks barge into a tabletop D&D session, bellowing profanity
and scattering the group's dice and figures.
No, the goal was always to give PC gamers a game that truly emulates the
imaginative, transporting experience of the classic pen-and-paper RPG, complete
    with personality-rich locales, carefully balanced party-based adventure/combat,
and a meaningful story. Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach, takes some
promising, heroic strides down that noble, if nerdy, road.
Based on the 3.5 Edition Dungeons & Dragons rules (and set in the Wizards
of the Coast campaign fantasy realm of Eberron), Stormreach is rooted in party-based
exploration, in the vein of Guild Wars. It also aims to streamline the sometimes
alienating experience of the first-time D&Der.
