  • Casual Play: What Makes WoW Dumb?

MMORPG.com's Steve Wilson takes a look at this question in his editorial.

There are a number of things that the hardcore find overly simplistic about WoW. Lack of character customization, lack of impact on the world, lack of variation in crafting, and the lack of meaningful penalties for death are just a few that are constantly mentioned. And for the most part these don't seem to offend any but the old school MMO players.

I'm not my character. That there are only a few options for a different look doesn't particularly matter much to me at all. Once in the game I'll be identifying friends by the name over their heads more than whether their eyes are a paler shade of blue than mine.

  • Bill Roper provides some insights into the kind of character system the Flagship team is implementing in its game

RPG Vault has posted another in their sneak peeks! This time Bill Roper talks about characters.

All of the characters in Hellgate: London are human. This means that we make huge distinctions in how each faction looks when wearing the same type of equipment. A leather jacket on a Templar will look very different than one on a Cabalist, for example. Players will have a wide breadth of choices that will allow them to customize the look of their characters, however. All the basics are there - hairstyles and color, eye color, skin tone, faces, facial hair (men), accessories (women), height, weight.

  • Skill Synergy: Part Two

The official site for Guild Wars continues their additions to the PVP Primer...

Builds form an integral component of Guild Wars, and selecting skills is just as important as how you use those skills. Many skills act in synergy with each other and offer tons of options for combinations. We'll examine some of those opportunities in this article, and start explaining how skills work with each other and how certain types of skills can "cover" other ones.

As with the previous primer synergy article, we move away from Training, Zaishen, and Random Arenas. However, the builds listed below work fine in Random Arenas. In fact, we suggest that you try them out in Random Arenas or a similar arena for practice. Each of these builds has a good chance of proving useful in any PvP conflict, from Hero Battles to GvG to Alliance Battles.
