  • Risia open for the Thanksgiving Weekend

The official site for Dungeons and Dragons Online has been updated with a notice that they will be opening a test server over the Thanksgiving weekend to let more players offer input and feedback on the upcoming content.

As a special treat for the Thanksgiving holiday we are bringing up the Risia Server to give you a chance to play and give feedback on the new dungeons we are adding in the "Evil Resurgent" update. We are using the same servers and character data that we used last time Risia was up, therefore we are giving out 10x the normal XP rate to help get you up and running on the Risia server faster. As a reminder, the servers that had character data copied to Risia last time were: Adar, Aerenal, Argonnessen, Aundair, Fernia, Ghallanda, Kyber, and Lhazaar, and the characters were copied at the beginning of October. Don't worry if your server isn't on this list or if your character has gained levels since the data was copied – the XP bonus will help you catch up in no time!

  • Dave Bonnewell at MMORPG.com Looks Behind the Online

In his weekly column at MMORPG.com, Dave Bonnewell reflects on different events from around the world of MMOs.

Lately, Blizzard has been speaking rather softly, but carrying a big ban-stick. Numerous unsuspecting denizens of World of Warcraft have already found themselves no longer welcome anywhere in all of Azeroth, a very good friend of mine included. Let me just fill you in on the gory details of how it went down. My friend (we'll call him Terrance, the Tauren Hunter) had been looking after a fellow guild mate's (we'll call her Ursula, the Undead Warlock) account while she soaked up the Jamaican sun on Summer vacation. It was not long before Terrance discerned that some items under his care were unaccounted for. He took the next logical step and shipped the remainder of his guildmate's valuables to himself for safekeeping, while Ursula submitted a GM ticket. Upon further investigation, this led to Blizzard deducing that Ursula's account had been hacked by Terrance and, thus, his World of Warcraft account was unceremoniously bludgeoned to oblivion with the hard-hitting Blizzard banstick.

  • MMORPG writer Jon Wood Tackles This Topic

MMORPG.com has posted an editorial that looks at Sexism in MMOs.

"The portrayal of women in video games is disgusting."

That's a quotation I've heard many times, from both men and women alike. The truth is that they have a point. Most of the time, female avatars are portrayed with large breasts, small waistlines and finely toned bodies all around. Commonly, the blame for this is put on the fact that "sex sells" and game development is a male dominated industry.
