  • Whats Up At Nevrax?

The official site for Saga of Ryzom has been updated with a surprising and startling announcement...

As you will no doubt know, Ryzom has been going through a transition over the last few months. This transition is continuing into the new year and changes are starting to happen today.

The first news is that while the game WILL continue to run and be supported, Nevrax (as a corporate entity) will be going into receivership next month. We emphasize again that the game will continue to run and be supported as this is not the beginning of the end - just the end of the beginning.

As you all, we love our game and we want to see Atys and its homins continue to evolve. We are not alone in this feeling as from the shadows a company has emerged and are currently preparing a plan to take on Ryzom. We can't tell you more at the moment since it is being discussed but we will keep you informed when we get hard facts. We can assure you that much is happening behind the scenes.

Get clicking to learn more. Our best wishes to the whole crew at Nevrax!

ArsTechnica has a little more info on the NCSoft-FBI bust of pirates running a network of Lineage 2 private servers to circumvent the game's subscription:

Piracy is generally considered to be one of the biggest problems facing the gaming software industry, but it was generally considered that Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing games (MMORPGs) were immune from its effects. However, a recent press release from NCSoft regarding an FBI sting against fradulent Lineage II game servers shows that this is not always the case.

Read more about the bust at ArsTechnica. It's a good day for legit gamers and developers alike when the feds start taking these claims seriously.

  • How's this for weird news...

Apparently IGG, makers of upcoming MMOs Voyage Century Online and Myth War, had the rug pulled out from under their site. Going to their site now yields a "Server not found" error, probably powered by folks wanting to capitalize on IGN.com or IGE.com misspellings. Here's a snip for the official press release about the illegal acquisition:

For the benefit of online game-players, both of IGG.com’s games now have their own new domains with full functionality intact: Voyage Century Online and Myth War Online. These domains will be the entryway for their respective games, until the original domain is reacquired. IGG.com wishes to assure players that, while the “IGG.com” domain was illegally acquired, absolutely no community information was compromised in any way. For information about IGG.com, web surfers may visit the temporary holding site for IGG.com at www.mythwaronline.com/igg.

IGG strongly condemns all occurrences of cyber-crime and will vigorously pursue legal action against the perpetrators of this domain theft.

Stay tuned for the final chapter of this mystery novel, though wouldn't a domain name theft be a pretty open and shut case if it's a case at all? Hopefully this isn't a grey goo-esque publicity stunt.

  • Victor Wachter Moves to Cryptic

According to MMORPG.com it's musical chairs time over at Dungeons and Dragons Online.

Victor "Sporkfire" Wachter, the Online Community Manager for Dungeons and Dragons Online, has jumped ship and landed at Cryptic Studios (City of Heroes/Villains, Marvel Universe Online) as their lead community manager.

"I am a huge fan of superheroes," Wachter told MMORPG.com, "and so working with the company that put the genre on the MMORPG map is one of the most exciting things to have ever happened to me. To be working on Marvel Universe Online makes it that much sweeter."

Wachter will be replaced at Turbine by current DDO Online Community Relations Specialist Ariel "Samera" Jaffee-Marks.

"DDO is going to be in great hands now that Samera is stepping up to run community relations," said Wachter. "She has always been the public face of OCR for the game and I am very proud of her."
