  • Trick Or Treat In City of Heroes

The official site for City of Heroes has been updated with an announcment about the Halloween events planned for this year.

Even in a city where many citizens dress in unique costumes to battle real mystical threats, Halloween is a special time of year. While Paragon City's Halloween holiday was dampened last year by renewed hostilities from the Rogue Isles, this year's October events look to be even more promising than before, with record numbers of citizens all over the city ready to welcome trick-or-treaters of all ages.

  • Exploring Middle-earth: Archet

The official site for Lord of the Rings Online has been updated with another installment of the series, Exploring Middle-earth. Archet is today's destination...

The lack of any real authority and the peaceful nature of Archet's people have recently drawn the attentions of a band of brigands known as the Blackwolds, though rumour has it that the Blackwolds have much darker goals than terrifying common folk and farmers. To counter this threat, a retired sellsword by the name of Captain Brackenbrook has begun organizing the townsfolk into a makeshift garrison to repel the advances of the brigands.

  • GCC’s Grumpy Old Gamer visits the offices of Flying Lab Software

GameClubCentral.com has posted an interesting article today. It's the first of two that chronicle Grumpy Old Gamer's visit to Flying Labs.

GCC’s Grumpy Old Gamer recently visited the offices of Flying Lab Software for an onsite interview centering upon their upcoming release – Pirates Of The Burning Sea. This is the first of two articles from that visit, this once focusing upon the company itself…

Russell Williams – Flying Lab Executive Producer“Our biggest asset is our ambition, almost to a fault...” Russell Williams – Flying Lab Executive Producer

In order to save myself the long drive to get from the peninsula I live on to Downtown Seattle where Flying Lab Software makes its home, I decided to take the 25 minute ferry across the Puget Sound (inland salt water). As typical to make me go from happy to Grumpy, I dropped from the clear skies on the hill down to the fog covered Ferry Terminal to encounter the behind schedule ferry. Grrr, is this the indication of my day?
As you will see, absolutely not!

  • Team Leaves For New Site

After many years of bringing news to the MMO masses, the team at RPGDOT has left the site. In an announcement on the site this morning, they drop the bomb.

It’s with some sadness but much anticipation that I announce the RPGDot team is moving on to a new site. After considering several issues for some time, we have decided to return to an independently owned site, designed from the ground up to provide a better layout, faster response and improved features but with the same underlying philosophy and dedication to the RPG community.

We know this will come as a shock to many of our loyal readers and we’d like to thank our visitors, contributors and Jolt for their previous support.

Our new site is now open and we hope you join us on our new adventure. We shouldn’t be too hard to find – watch out for us.

After a little digging into the forums, I found the address to the new site. Good Luck to the whole team!

  • What is the Career Story Arc?

The official site for Pirates of the Burning Sea has been updated with a new Develop Log. In this one we get a look into the process from GavinIrby.

I've been asked to write a little bit about the process of writing and implementing these missions so our players can get a glimpse of what is going on "behind the scenes," so to speak. Since I don't want to give away too much about the story itself and spoil any of the surprises, I'm mostly going to discuss my own writing process and the things I hope to accomplish with the Career Story Arc.

My background is in academia, rather than creative writing, and so my process is maybe atypical for a content developer (Luckily, our team has some very talented novelists to act as my editors). I start with hermeneutics (meaning, the interpretation of texts), which is in many ways, the mirror image of the writing process. It may seem strange, at first, to call video games "texts," but they actually conform very well to contemporary hermeneutic theory.

  • Three Beta Reports

Gamespy has updated their site with three articles that report on the beta experience for Wow's upcoming expansion, The Burning Crusade.

The first is a look at the Hellfire Peninsula...

On the Blasted Lands side of the Dark Portal, the crater area has been cleared out of high-level mobs, and quest-giving NPCs have been added instead. This begins a series of quest breadcrumbs that lead you through the Dark Portal, into Outland, and to the first major city where you can start loading up on quests.

Second is a journal of sorts as the author tries out a Blood Elf Paladin...

Yesterday, I kicked off with my early experiences of The Burning Crusade playing as a freshly created Blood Elf Paladin. Today, I'm going to finish up talking about the newbie zone, Eversong Woods, and then we'll move onto the level 10-20 zone called Ghostlands.

Finally is a trek to level 70 as blue-skinned Draenei Shaman...

If there's something I missed about World of Warcraft since I began my days as a raider, it was the feeling you get when filling up your quest log with assorted missions, and filling your bags with assorted loot rewards, inching your way to the next level. While the level 70 cap will allow me to experience that with my main, I'm enjoying the low-level experience all over again, with my beta test of the Draenei starting area. Since the Draenei shaman offers the most unique experience for Alliance characters, I went that route and began my adventure by swinging my mace and earth shocking things in the face. Just wait until I learn frost shock!

Head over to WoW Ten Ton Hammer to catch up on all the latest information on the Burning Crusade or share your thoughts with us in the Ten Ton Hammer Forums!
