  • Exploring Middle-earth: The Party Tree

The official site for The Lord of the Rings Online has been updated today with another installment of Exploring Middle-earth! Today we get a glimpse at The Party Tree...

In a broad, open field in Hobbiton, not far from Bag End, there stands a majestic tree, taller than any within sight for miles. The Party Tree, as it is called by the Hobbits, is a gathering place for merriment, eating, and storytelling, where all Shire-folk are warmly welcomed. It was here that Bilbo Baggins celebrated his magnificent birthday (his eleventy-first), and it was from this location that some say he simply vanished from sight forever. Few are certain of the Tree's origins, and even fewer actually give its history a second thought. The Party Tree is decorated year-round with bright lanterns and yards of colourful woven streamers, for it seems logical to all Hobbits that a decorated tree is reason enough for a celebration -- why risk missing the opportunity for a feast by bringing down the festive arrangements? Besides, it's far too tall these days for Hobbits to reach the limbs, even if one had a mind to.

  • Clan Feature #6: The Wu-Tang Clan

MMORPG.com wraps up their series that features the clans in the upcoming 9 Dragons. This week we are treated to a look at eh final clan as well as new screenshots!

This is the final instalment of a six article series exploring the background lore of the clans in the exciting new MMO martial arts game 9Dragons. Today we’ll explore the white clan that so many of our designers love to call home - Wu-Tang Clan.

Wu-Tang is a discipleship of Tai Chi practitioners who strive to become living instruments of divine justice. Their entire way of life, as well as their Kung Fu, is governed by the philosophy and teachings of The Tao, or The Way, which reveals secret truths governing the great universal balance. It follows naturally that the clan symbol is the harmonious Yin and Yang.

  • Diary #2

Gamespot has another addition to the ArchLord dev diary on their site. In this entry we are treated to more of the history of the world and a bit about the races within it.

When Cyripus' men didn't find the Archons in Gracia's village, Cyripus supposed she must have left them elsewhere for safekeeping. The safest place she would have known was the main temple in Serend, so that is where he turned his attention next. Dikain, a monk of the highest level, guarded the temple. He was a formidable force all on his own, but since he was surrounded by his people, he was invincible. Cyripus knew he had to destroy Dikain from the inside if he had any hope of gaining any Archons that he guarded.

  • Turbine Releases Alpha Tester Impressions

The official site for Lord of the Rings Online has been updated with a page dedicated to sharing some impressions from the alpha stage testers. High marks seem to be all round...

So far, we're very pleased with how Alpha has been progressing. This week marked the largest number of concurrent players on the server since Alpha began, giving us a good starting point for analysis on how the game performs and plays. Despite heavier than expected logins, the servers remained stable and most players reported very few problems creating their character and beginning their adventure in Middle-earth. Even though there was a scarcity of wolves in the newbie hunting area (something that will be resolved in the next Alpha build), Archet was abuzz with excitement and activity.

We thought we'd take a moment to share some of the Alpha players' comments with you for some insight into what they think so far:

    * Writing is excellent so far, as are the characterizations. The model options are fantastic - giving you a very *real* seeming and very individual character.

Head over and see all the comments and learn how you can sign up for a chance at Beta! Share all your thoughts on Lord of the Rings Online with us at LOTRO Ten Ton Hammer and get to know the growing community better!
