  • Exploring Middle-earth: The Withywindle

The Lord of the Rings Online official site has been updated with another entry of what you may find while exploring Middle-earth.

From its source in the mysterious Barrow-downs and all along its course through the Old Forest, the River Withywindle is a place of strange happenings and of dark and ancient legends. When adventuring in unknown areas within the Old Forest, travellers would be wise to avoid these winding, slow-moving waters, though doing so may prove difficult – The Withywindle has a way of drawing the unwary toward its deceptively tranquil surface and into its dark depths. It is also said that strange creatures of the forest - and even the very willow trees themselves along the Withywindle's banks - are agents of its ancient evil.

  • Clan Feature: The Brotherhood of Thieves

MMORPG.com offers the second in a series of six features that take a look at the six clans of 9 Dragons. This installment gives us a look at The Brotherhood of Thieves.

This is the second instalment of a six article series exploring the background lore of the clans in the exciting new MMO martial arts game 9Dragons. Today we’ll explore one of the black clans ?The Brotherhood of Thieves.

The Brotherhood is an organization of thieves, robbers, rogues and brigands, unified by a noble purpose, that of fighting off the Imperial tax collectors and feeding the poor. Hence their common farewell, “Take what you will, share what you can!” Well, that’s how the clan started off anyway. Today, the clan itself is rather corrupt and violent. Coercion is used to ensure loyalty and non-adherence to clan rules is dealt with swiftly and harshly. And so, with true nobility at the root of their clan, and a harsh criminal code of ethics, life in The Brotherhood is sort of like Robin Hood joins the Mafia.

Learn more about this brotherhood and then head over to the forums here at Ten Ton Hammer and tell us what you think about 9 Dragons.

  • How Is EQ2 Faring?

Gamespy.com has published a state of the game article. How do you think EQ2 is doing? Read on to see how Gamespy feels...

The original EverQuest is indisputably the grandpappy of MMOs as we know them today. It wasn't the first of its kind, and it was far from perfect, but there's no denying how pervasive its influence was. EverQuest II, on the other hand, entered the market at a very different time. It launched alongside the stiffest competition possible -- World of Warcraft -- but still garnered positive reviews, mostly due to its progressive, accessible gameplay, and rich, bustling, detail-rich world.

  • Who Is Rollin Hafner?

The official site for Stargate Worlds has been updated with another developer profile. This time we get to learn about Rollin Hafner.

The Allegorical Autobiography of Rollin Hafner

Once upon a time there was a young man; tall and lean with the hair of a 14th century painting. He was unique in all the world, for although nature has a sense of humor, it seldom repeats a joke. This man was a llama tamer and hedgehog philosopher, the sort of man that made his imaginary friends worry about his mental state and occasionally have interventions with him. He liked wild things, like thunderstorms and birdsongs and he knew many of the clouds by their nicknames.

Keep reading to learn more about Rollin Hafner. Are you looking forward to playing Stargate Worlds? Let us know about it in the forums here at Ten Ton Hammer.

  • Peter Beagle Tells Us More About Working On Horizons

RPG Vault posted the second in their series of logs by reknown author Peter S. Beagle who is working on Horizons.

First published in 1968, Peter S. Beagle's The Last Unicorn is a classic work of fantasy literature that can be enjoyed as a children's tale or for its deeper nuances of meaning. Living alone in her forest, the titular creature overhears a remark indicating she is the last of her kind. When this assertion is repeated by a butterfly that has visited distant lands, she sets out to learn if it's true. Joining her on this quest are Schmendrick, a magician of rather questionable skills, and Molly Grue, a middle-aged woman seeking reaffirmation of her belief in the legendary animals.

Last year, Peter S. Beagle joined the team working on Tulga Games' Horizons: Empire of Istaria, the persistent state offering in which another celebrated mythical beast, the Dragon, is featured as a playable race. At the time, it was announced that he would work on enhancing the lore, contribute to in-game events and write quests. In the latter area, players can now experience the first fruit of his labor and talent. Thanks to the company, we have the chance to enjoy it in a different manner, through the eyes of various individuals who contributed to it, starting with the author.

Get clicking and check out this addition to the logs from Peter S. Beagle. Don't forget to return here to Ten Ton Hammer and let us know what you think in our forums.
