  • New Spells for the Twilight Forge Module

How many features can you fit into an expansion? Well, I think Turbine's DDO team is doing their best to find out! Here is a list of the newly announced spells that they plan to include in the upcoming Twilight Forge Module...

    New Spells for Players

    Niac's Cold Ray
Shoots a ray of ice at your foes; does 1d10 per caster level, max 5d10 (Reflex save negates) cold damage to a single target. Niac's Cold Ray is a level 1 spell for wizards and sorcerers.

    Knock
This spell unlocks locked doors and chests as if a rogue with a pick locks skill of caster level + ability modifier (where the ability is int for wizards and cha for sorcerers) was attempting to pick the lock. Knock is a level 2 spell for wizards and sorcerers.

    Dimension Door
This spell, castable only in dungeons and adventure areas, creates a door of magical energy. Any member of your party may click on the door to return them to the inside entrance of the area (you will be returned to the inside entrance so you won't take an XP hit for exiting the adventure). There is no waiting time, unlike recalling, and the teleport cannot be interrupted by monsters hitting you. Dimension Door is a level 4 spell for wizards, sorcerers, and bards.

    Wall of Fire
Creates a wall of flames in front of you. Watch and laugh as monsters run into it and burn; don't forget to bring the BBQ sauce. Wall of Fire is a level 4 spell for wizards and sorcerers.

    Teleport
This spell is usable only in town and is designed to lower your time spent traveling. It lets you pick from several destinations useful to wizards and sorcerers (the marketplace, your class trainers, etc). Please be advised that as per D&D 3.5 rules, this spell has a 3% failure rate. Teleport is a level 5 spell for wizards and sorcerers.

  • New Plans On The Horizon...

Ultima Online's main page had this announcement this morning...

These are exciting days for MMORPG fans here at EA. With the acquisition of Mythic, the UO team will be working with the creative folks who brought us Dark Age of Camelot and are hard at work on the spectacular-looking Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. I’m thrilled that the UO team and Mythic will work together to forge Britannia’s future.

There is much to talk about with our new partners, and it will take some time to review and finalize our plans. Because we need to take that time, we are postponing the announcement that we were going to make this week. The in-game fiction cycle will take a break for a bit and will return soon.

    See you in Britannia,
    Darkscribe

  • Two Exclusive Concept Images at RPG Vault

In their continuing look at Hero's Journey, RPG Vault has posted another Peek at the game. In this week's article we learn about the city of Quillmore and the verdant Grenmeer Lowlands around it in Simutronics' upcoming game

Once considered an outsider by the world's great power centers, Quillmore is now the last of the Old Blood cities, and finds itself as the keystone of Elanthia's restorative efforts. The remnant citizenry of hundreds of communities call Quillmore home and look to its ruling House to provide sanctuary in the wake of the Sundering.

  • Chinese Government steps up 'anti-gaming' measures

Spong.com has posted a report on efforts being taken by China's already anti gaming government to take restrictions even further.

You might not be aware of this, but the ever-autocratic Chinese government has had a system in place since last August preventing individuals from playing online games for more than three consecutive hours.

The system, by law, is installed in every online game in the country. It works by cutting the ability level of a player's online game character by half after he or she has played for more than three consecutive hours. After five consecutive hours of play, the system cuts the ability level of that player's character to the lowest level allowed by the game. Players have to log off for a minimum of five hours before the system resets.

  • New Excitement Comes To MMORPG Dark and Light

This just in from Farlan Entertainment...

Farlan Entertainment, publisher of Dark and Light™, The Largest MMORPG You’ve Ever Seen!, today announced two additions to its popular online fantasy game that provide even more engagement for players on a daily basis. Alchemic Dream, Dark and Light’s community management provider, has initiated multiple daily events for players to participate in, while the return of Dark and Light’s newsletter, the Ganareth Gazette, once again keeps players up to date on the battles, villains, nobility, creatures, quests, and other developments in the land of Ganareth.

“Just as in the real world, Ganareth is a place where nothing stands still. Unexpected challenges and opportunities are a major part of the appeal of Dark and Light,” said Frédéric Caille, CEO of Farlan Entertainment. “We believe players will find the daily events introduced by Alchemic Dream to be both entertaining and useful. Ganareth is a living, breathing world full of inspiration, intrigue and adventure—a world people naturally want to be a part of.”

The events introduced into Dark and Light are sure to be varied and fresh. In a recent schedule, for example, players had the opportunity to escort a troupe of performers traveling by Alk’Em, take part in the Ganareth World Sport, take back a strategic Al-Drifa bridge, or stop a turf war between two spiteful clans. Events are staged in all five game languages and are posted on a weekly basis in the Community section of the site’s language forums.

The Ganareth Gazette is an indispensable daily news publication detailing all the latest that’s happening in the world of Dark and Light. Reports of various actions, schemes, stories and other developments are reported by a team of journalists. Feature articles also provide valuable information about the history, characters and strategies of Dark and Light. Players can find the Ganareth Gazette by logging onto www.darkandlight.com.

In addition to these additions, Dark and Light has launched a new corporate home page at www.darkandlight.com .

    About Dark and Light:
At 40,000 square kilometers (15,000 square miles) of seamless playing surface, Dark and Light (DnL) is the biggest gameworld ever created. Massive numbers of fortresses and cities will populate the thirteen kingdoms of Ganareth, a land locked in an epic battle for control between the Dark and Light factions. Visit www.darkandlight.com .

    About Farlan Entertainment:
Farlan, headquartered on the island of Mauritius, has been involved since 2001 in the entertainment gaming industry. • Now You Can Move Your Character...For A Fee...

This announcement was posted on the official World of Warcraft site...

We are happy to announce the availability of the Paid Character Transfer service for World of Warcraft. You can find this feature in the account-management section of the official World of Warcraft website. This new functionality will allow you to transfer characters to other realms (within certain restrictions) in order to join friends and family or make new friends and allies. Learn more about this new feature in our Paid Character Transfer FAQ.

The initial launch of the Paid Character Transfer service will only allow transfers between a limited set of realms. You can now transfer characters off of these realms:

    * Warsong

We'll gradually scale up the list of realms to accommodate more players as quickly as possible. Good luck in your continued adventures in Azeroth, and have fun on your new realm!

Please note that because it is tied into the account-management section, the Paid Character Transfer service may be unavailable during the regularly scheduled weekly maintenance.

  • Rick Schmitz Dev Diary - Various Valuable and Unlabelled Things

Find out what The Lord of the Rings Online's Lead Content Support Artist, Rick Scmitz, has to say in his updated Dev Diary...

Hello there! Rick "October" Schmitz here!

I'm the Lead Content Support Artist on The Lord of the Rings Online™: Shadows of Angmar™ (LOTRO). You may be wondering, "What the heck kind of title is that?" Well, it's the sort of title you get when you're crazy enough to work with Content folks and Artists.

While the majority of the LOTRO Art team is toiling away on all sorts of things you might expect to find in a game based on J.R.R. Tolkien's amazing books (like Orcs, Dwarves, Rivendell, hobbit holes and so on), the Content Support team makes some of the unexpected items that the Content folks dream up along the way.
