  • There is a new gameplay preview over at the official Age of Conan website.

The core of the question is: can we give any advantage to social gameplay without affecting negatively some peoples’ perception of solo gameplay? I guess that is impossible. The problem is, I want to reward people for being social, without alienating the true image of Conan as a truly solo friendly game. I have thus decided on making a compromise for the social classes, the Prestige Classes as we call them. The compromise is to let all abilities be available for your social class, but simply in a somewhat weaker form. You are barred from nothing, but you can not reach your full potential.

Be sure to read the rest.

  • There's an interivew to be had for Age of Conan. This time Gamespy interviews Gaute Godager.

According to Godager, the development team took a lot of lessons from Anarchy Online while they were developing Age of Conan. "Having a successful MMO as been an enormous advantage for us," Godager said. "It's a pretty eye-opening experience when what you think you know about how players play MMOs runs into actual data taken from a running game." In fact, one of the biggest lessons that the team learned is that what some players say they want, isn't always what everyone really needs.

  • MMORPGs increase productivity... yea, that's the ticket!

The Orange County Register reports that corporations are beginning to embrace virtual online gaming as a means of personal and team development. Okay, we all know that 9 out of 10 meetings are a waste of time; so why not gain a level or two while your at it?

In multi-player online games such as "World of Warcraft" by Blizzard Entertainment in Irvine, success can depend on strong leaders who communicate well and can coordinate a well-timed attack that uses the varied talents of their team, from dwarves and gnomes to night elves and humans.

Because many modern corporations depend on creating effective teams from geographically separate staff members, some companies study games to see how they accomplish that through a mix of Internet phone calls, instant messaging and personal communication skills.

Monthly subscription fees won't drain your wallet like green fees, yes. But if your boss calls for a heal, you better be johnny-on-the-spot.

  • E3 security will confiscate your babies.

Well, actually, you'll just have to leave your infants outside (in downtown LA). Check out this excerpt from a recent "Media Advisory" sent out by E3 organizers:

NOTE: E3Expo 2006 is a trade event and is not open to the general public. No one under 18 will be admitted, including infants. This policy is strictly enforced. We appreciate your cooperation in notifying your audience that the general public will not be admitted to this event.

I'd say this means one thing: boobies, but we already know E3 has issued a strict edict against booth babe-age. Around here, folks think the prohibition is just a PR ruse. Either way, we'll supply lots of photographic evidence.

And oh, I guess this means a good 70% of EB Games / GameStop employees will have to stay home. That means it's 70% more likely that they're might be some semi-intelligent chatter on the shuttle bus, or at least some peace & quiet for the sleep-deprived among us. No worries if you can't attend due to age or general SoCal aversiveness, we'll supply the best E3 coverage this side of the interweb!

  • Smials - Great big bunkers for little bitty hobbits.

The Great Smials, or the Great Place of the Tooks, were excavated in Tuckborough by Isengrim II, the tenth Thain of the Shire and grandfather of the famous Bandobras "Bullroarer" Took. A great family hole akin to the Brandybucks' Brandy Hall, the Great Smials are deep and many-tunnelled. They were not only designed to provide a home for many generations of Tooks, but also to defend against incursion in dark times.

Read more about the smials right here.
