  • OGaming dishes up an interview with Webzen's Huxley Producer Kijong Kang.

OGaming: The trick to building an awesome sci-fi shooter title versus fantasy or RPG game is…?

Kijong Kang: Creating a sci-fi world that draws on reality. We are focusing on a ‘near future’ concept to make the Huxley world somewhat familiar and relatable to reality. Weapons and vehicles that show up in-game will have realistic mechanisms that could possibly exist in the real world. We are striving to immerse players into a game environment that feels familiar… almost like they are fighting on a real battleground.

Of course, we will provide strong action along with dazzling special effects. This will bring in the sci-fi FPS element. We’re doing a lot to create a unique game that at the same time will feel familiar to FPS players.

Ah I remember back in the good old days when you'd just feel happy whacking at the stray Orc.

  • RPG Vault has a new peek at Simutronic's upcoming RPG title Heroes Journey.

    Artistic Inspiration
The wood sprites came about as part of an effort to infuse the enchanted forests of Elanthia with a necessary spark of life. Though we could have gone any number of directions with their design, it seemed like an appropriate place to utilize a somewhat traditional but popular notion of what denizens of the faerie realm look like - diminutive and delicate, colorful, nimble and capable of flight. In keeping with the blue-tinged forests, the coloration of the wood sprites is cool in tone with an animal theme; their wings borrowed from butterflies and their speckled skin influenced by vibrantly colored rainforest frogs.

Fairies, Sprites and Frogs.. Oh my!

  • Let the previewing begin! IGN previews this newly announced expansion pack for Guild Wars.

Guild Wars was a great success. And with great success comes great expansions and eventually sequels. ArenaNet, developer of Guild Wars, has done things a bit different from the very beginning and are continuing the trend. Instead of offering the basic expansion pack that most were expecting, they're offering up Guild Wars: Factions, a stand-along (yes along) that allows players to purchase and play the title without needing the original Guild Wars. Those that have the original Guild Wars that purchase Factions can adventure on the new continent. Those that buy Factions first can then go back and experience the original content at a later time. Interesting? We think so.

  • RPG Vault has a Dungeons and Dragons Video Commentary for your viewing enjoyment.

What we've seen of the game so far is certainly very intriguing and we wanted to make sure to share as much of it with you as possible. To that end, we had the chance to corner Lead Designer Ken Troop and get him to provide some commentary over footage captured from the game.
Each of the videos encompasses different elements of the game for around 25 minutes of footage total. Therefore we thought it would be best to split them into three different videos but we certainly recommend grabbing all of them in succession.. You'll see everything from general thoughts about the world of Eberron to how the team dynamic can affect quests and combat.

Do yourself a favor and visit our Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach Site You won't regret it.

  • This just in from the desk of the lovely Pann, the Auto Assault NDA has been lifted. I repeat, it HAS been lifted. Therefore all of those juicy little details that you've been holding back just waiting to tell somebody can finally come out! It also means that you're going to get a whole lot of goodies on our Auto Assault TTH site. So, enjoy the ride and have fun talking about it!

The Auto Assault team is pleased to announce that on Tuesday, January 10, the Non-Disclosure Agreement was lifted. Members of the beta community and the gaming press are now permitted to publicly discuss their experiences in the Auto Assault beta test, as well as take and publish their own screenshots and videos. Those who have been awaiting the opportunity to publish beta diaries on their sites or write follow-ups to previously published previews are free to do so.

Producer Steve Snow also revealed the plans for the loot bonus that will be granted to players who have purchased the Auto Assault preorder package. In a post on the official message boards, Snow wrote, “The way the bonus works is it increases a creature’s chance to drop enhanced items from one to five percent of the creature’s base chance, so if you’re fighting a boss and it has an 80% chance to drop enhanced items, when your character gets credit for the kill the boss will have an 84% chance to drop enhanced items. For infantry that has only 1% chance to drop enhanced loot, the loot bonus will make that chance 2%. All of this is provided your character has looting rights to the creature when it dies. This will show up in the game as a medal on your character. The loot bonus is applied to your Auto Assault account, so every character created on a pre-order account will have the loot bonus. This is in addition to the unique retailer weapons that improve alongside your character.” You can read the entire post at http://boards.autoassault.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=50632.

Coinciding with the lifting of the NDA and the preorder loot bonus announcement, MMORPG.com will be giving away six thousand serial codes that will grant the gaming community the opportunity to participate in a special beta weekend event that starts Friday, January 13, at 4 pm Eastern time and ends Sunday, January 16, at 3 am Eastern time. In preparation for the assigning of the keys, the client and download instructions have been made available on the event page here: http://www.mmorpg.com/aa_betaweekend.cfm?fp=1280,1024,428656218,20060111....
