  • Final Fantasy or The Bible? You decide.
Lycos has posted the top 50 search terms used over the last 10 years and Final Fantasy has come in at #17 beating out terms like Harry Potter, The Simpsons, Star Wars, Star Trek and Ten Ton Hammer. Neddie Seagoon of WorldChessNetwork.com claims to have searched for Ten Ton Hammer millions of times, but to no avail. He had this to say about that:

" As Lycos continues the celebration of its 10 - year anniversary, this week we announced the top 50 search terms from Sept. 1995 through the week ending Sept. 17, 2005. Lycos was first to market with a weekly countdown of most popular internet search topics, when it introduced The Lycos 50 on Sept. 15, 1999. "

  • Because only four journals isn't enough.
RPGVault has posted The Saga of Ryzom Journal #5, featuring the Zorai race. Lance Armstrong agreed to come out of retirement, a ballsy move on his part, to join the Zorai race. At the press conference he stated:

" A mysterious place with a history full of secrets, the exotic, organic world of Atys is made up of five distinct bio-diverse ecosystems ranging from parched desert to temperate forest, unspoiled lake lands, lush jungle and the eerie caverns of the Prime Roots. It is populated by four races that are collectively known as homins. Each of these has a different genetically predisposed role, and therefore its own society reflecting its particular values. The Fyros are warriors who maintain a constant vigil in order to protect the planet against its greatest threat, fire. Theirs is a relatively austere culture built upon a strict code of honor. The Matis are decadent aristocrats and skilled biologists dedicated to maintaining the flora surrounding them. The Zorais are mystics, with powers shrouded in secrecy, and the Trykers are playful spirits who seek only freedom. "

  • 360 to gone in 0 seconds.
GameSpot is reporting that the initial allotment of XBox 360s at both EB Games and their merger partner GameStop has been sold out. If you want a 360 you had best look elsewhere. Ricky of Trailer Park Boys swore repeatedly when he heard the news. Then he swore some more and uttered the following:

"Retailer is first online store to go through its allotment of the next-gen console; other online retailers still have "launch" quantities."

  • A ticket for economy please.
The Escapist has posted an Op/Ed titled, We The Avatars that takes a look at the economies in MMOGs and how some of them are attacking the problems froma different vector. Richard Garriott adamantly refused to return our calls, but we did overhear him say this as he gave us the finger:

"Not many gamers I know get too hopped up over the subject of MMOG
economics. Sure, we complain about high prices at the auction house, we
lament the waiting lines for our chosen servers, we disparage
real-money trade, we blather on about "inflation." But when was the last time you checked the Consumer Price Index for your favorite virtual world, or looked to see whether your guild was actually turning a profit these days? "

  • A Pox on World of Warcraft.
It is rumoured that a disease is sweeping through World of Warcraft. Whether it is intentional or not is still up in the air. Get your penicillin folks. Dustin Hoffman warned everyone that this could happen, but nobody listened. He's warning them again, in a very loud voice, that sounds something like this:

"Apparently there's a plague spreading in World of Warcraft. I can't verify this because I'm back at 30,000 feet"

  • Searching....Please Wait...
Killer Betties has posted an Op/Ed titled, In Search of the Next EverQuest. Antonia Bayle would not answer our calls, damned Caller ID, but her answering machine did have this message:

"EverQuest was my first MMO and I haven’t found another one that could hold my interest since. I honestly tried to like Final Fantasy XI, Lineage II, City of Heroes, World of Warcraft and Guild Wars—one or two of them even held my attention for a month or two—but nothing has had the staying power or stolen my spare time (and even some time I couldn’t really spare) like EverQuest has. • Can you spare some change (descriptions)?

On EQ2's official site, the developers highlight some of the more blaring changes to characters' spells and combat abilities in the wake of the recent "Combat Changes." Now everyone can learn about the fun, new abilities no one really wanted!

In this article, we take a closer look at how some of the abilities have changed for each class and how to integrate them with your play style. Utilizing the tactics and knowledge within and combining that with in-game experimentation and ability analysis will lead to success with your character.

I guess the changes are good for us even if not particularly pleasant for some classes, like the Vegan junk our significant others might force upon our meat- and beer-craven mouths. See the Combat and Spell Changes at the Everquest 2 official site!

  • This game makes me sick.
Gamerifts is reporting that some changes to City of Heroes have left people feeling nauseaous. Watching Ellen Degenerate on the Emmy's last night made my stomach queasy, especially when she said:

" Players within City of Heroes from Cryptic Studios are reporting an alarming growth in photo-sensitve seizures after a recent patch into the game updated one of the "Sonic Powers Buff" to characters enhancing the visual effects associated with the power. "
