The story leading up to the beginning of Star Trek Online is filled with conflict and catching up on all the lore can take a lot of reading. However, this week Cryptic sent us the second video in their Future Past series, detailing events that lead up to the setting of Star Trek Online such as the Klingon war with the Gorn and the growing tensions with the Federation. The joys of server downtime.
    Amarr Doomsday Weapon

Eve Online: Dominion is scheduled to go live this Tuesday, but with all big patches comes healthy server downtime. Make other plans this day as the estimated downtime for Eve Online is roughly 19 hours. Deployment is scheduled to begin at 02:00 GMT/UTC and is estimated to end at 21:00 GMT/UTC.

Deployment of EVE Online: Dominion will begin at 02:00 GMT/UTC on Tuesday, December 1, 2009.

Downtime is expected to last for 19 hours and we expect to be back up at 21:00 GMT/UTC. Tranquility will be offline for the duration of the deployment. The EVE API will be unavailable during this time and the EVE website, Account Management and forums, which will be disabled temporarily, will be restored later in the day. Pilots are advised to set a long-training skill for the duration of the deployment. Patch notes can be found here: http://www.eveonline.com/updates/patchnotes.asp

Read Keen's review of the birth of Aion and the recent Vision trailer
    Concept007
Every now and again you come across a well written blog that makes you go "Ah yeah, that is EXACTLY what I was thinking!" Keen and Graev's recent entry regarding Aion's first two months and commentary regarding the Vision video trailer did just that for me.

Aion suffers from late game syndrome. You can’t PvP until the late game (don’t tell me you can or I’ll tell you to go PvP at level 30 and report your success). You can’t do many of the things that represent Aion as a complete experience until the late game. What does it need to do to correct this problem? Introduce more content. It’s as simple as that. Give me more dungeons 30-35. Give me more quests. Give me more rewards. Let it take just as long if you’re really that set on keeping it a steep curve, but give me something to do to take my mind off of it.

You can read the rest of Keen's point of view on their blog.

Does this sum up the concerns of the community overall? It seems like NCsoft has a pretty good summarized list of fixes and all it takes is a little time to get it all together. Get in your two kinah by clicking the "Post your comments" link below and posting your thoughts.

Performance Showdown - Vista vs. Windows 7 in MMO Gaming
Machail tests Pulse Top 10 MMOs in Vista and Windows 7

Is Windows 7 really that much better than Windows Vista? Take a look at our test results to see for yourself. We put both operating systems to the test with nine MMO games to see which contender would come out on top. The results were a little surprising, perhaps even to the most die-hard techy. Find out if it's time for you to upgrade.

From the article:

"I booted a whole bunch of MMOGs on my PC when it was running Vista (64-bit) and I took simple frame rate samples from 4 resolutions... Each test was run [in a busy area] for precisely 60 seconds. I recorded the minimum FPS (frames per second), the maximum, and the average. I then repeated the test three times in each resolution to help eliminate any sort of anomalies. Then I upgraded the exact same PC with Windows 7."

As always, Premium Members get 72 hours of exclusive access to our feature article each week. Click here to check out Performance Showdown - Vista vs. Windows 7 in MMO Gaming, and thanks for being a Premium Member!

Get Prizes

We promised rewards for excellent Members Only MMOG Reviews, and it's time to put our prizes where our collective mouth is. The review with the highest rating (highest rating and most votes in a tiebreak) on December 3rd gets a Ten Ton Hammer prize pack including a Ten Ton Hammer jersey and more than $100 worth of MMOG-related games, time cards, swag, game t-shirts, and prizes.

You've got plenty of time (almost two weeks) and plenty of MMOs to choose from, so why not review an MMO you've played or been wanting to play? Or if you're not in the reviewing mood, rate and comment on some of the great reviews we've seen so far.

Also, we have Neverland Online novice packs (a $12 value for the browser-based MMO) and Knights of Dream City trial keys still available if you haven't already gotten yours.

Everything you wanted to know about decking out your ship, crew, and more.
    Away Party 1

You can create the greatest game in the universe, but if it isn’t full of more loot than players can imagine, you’re going to be fighting an uphill battle with your playerbase the moment it releases. We managed to track down Star Trek Online Producer, Dan Stahl, and System Designer, Joe Harrington, and convinced them to enlighten us on the importance gear plays in this upcoming title from Cryptic Studios.

Ten Ton Hammer: How exactly does gear work? Are there slots for your character's gear such as a chest slot, leg slot, etc?

Joe Harrington: Yeah. You already know there's space and there's ground gameplay. On the ground, your captain avatar has multiple slots like a shield slot for a personal shield, a body slot for things like body armor. It has a kit slot for the various types of kits your class can use. It has a weapon slot with a primary and alternate so you can switch back and forth.

You also can equip your away team members. They have similar slots but not quite as many. They have a single gun slot, a shield slot, a body armor slot and a weapon slot. We also have consumable slots where you can slot up consumables so you can use them even though they’re in your inventory.

Since Dungeons and Dragons Online: Eberron Unlimited has gone Free 2 Play the population has boomed. Free is a good price tag for any game, but is DDO worth the download? Ten Ton Hammer Executive Editor, Benjamin J. de la Durantaye, takes a look at the game after it has changed its subscription model and gives his first hand impressions.

That’s Dungeons and Dragons Online: Eberron Unlimited in a nutshell: a good game for good friends... We can log in, immediately run a new instance, and we’re not held back if one of the gang can’t make it that night.

    Priestbubble
So you’ve decided you want to heal, and what a valiant calling that is, regardless of what healing class you choose to play. Priest healers really have a special niche all of their own, with the ability to choose between two talent trees that allow for vary different play styles. This guide will attempt to give you valuable information and tips on both healing styles that will benefit anyone new to Priest healing.

Unlike most other healing classes, as a Priest healer you will have the option to spec into one of two talent trees: Discipline or Holy. Each spec brings a different type of healing style to the table and while both specs value the same basic stats on gear, the way the stats are ranked varies slightly.
