| Move along folks, nothing to see here... |
EVE’s booth presence on the E3 floor dwarfed games several times its size, so obviously our friends from Iceland wanted to make a big splash this year. Slotting press types for an hour and then pushing them out after a 15 minute rap session with a volunteer isn’t the way to do it. Setting up the reason for the move as “that’s what happens when you’re only one person” is a bit ridiculous. While it’s true that I was to have a partner for the interview, plans changed due to a family emergency, and something had to give.
If English is a barrier (as it appears to have been in other recent interviews), I’m sure arrangements could be made. I’ve covered plenty of events before solo; so while I’m not the greatest thing since the two-button mouse, I’m no greenhorn. If respectability is measured in sheer numbers, maybe we shouldn’t be paying any attention to EVE at all.
Instead, EVE Online is the first sandbox style MMORPG I could grow fond of. The game is easily as brutal as it is beautiful; as innovative as it is sustainable, and I had my heart set on big things from this interview. Not so today, and given the Gestapo treatment other sites experienced while trying to snag a walk-up interview, we’re not likely to see much from EVE this year. Bummer.
