As the rest of the Star Wars Galaxies community anxiously anticipates the release of the franchise's newest expansion- The Trials of Obi Wan- and the release of Episode III on DVD tomorrow, SWG players in Japan will be forced to join American and European servers. It's strike two for SOE in Asia; EQLive discontinued Asia-specific operations a few years ago as well, and it raises questions about the future of this troubled franchise.

" On its Web site, Electronic Arts Japan, the game's Japanese publisher, is reporting that it is discontinuing its support for Star Wars Galaxies in the country. Apparently, Japanese gamers who wish to continue on will have their accounts transferred to American or European servers, which remain unaffected. "

Star Wars Galaxies discontinued in Japan, this word from Yahoo! Games.
