Q: Are there player cities in Age of Conan?
A:
Yes. Guilds with enough power and money can purchase land on which to build their city. There are cities in both PvP areas for guilds to combat each other for ownership, and areas to build cities where there is no PvP. The PvP “cities” are not actually cities though. They are battlekeeps.

Q: Can you build a city anywhere?
A:
No. There are designated plots of land for purchase on which to build a city.

Q: Is there enough land for all guilds to build a city?
A:
Yes. The areas in which you can build a city are instanced. So if the area becomes full, another instance is created for more cities. Players can visit all cities in all instances. They won't be easy to obtain and build though, so not every guild will have a city.

Q: What other requirements does a guild need to meet before building a city?
A:
A guild needs a minimum number of thirty members before they can build a city.
 
Q: How do you build a city?
A:
Once the land is purchased, you need an architect to lay out the plan of the city to construct and place buildings within the plot of land. Then you start gathering your resources and building your structures.

Q: What kind of structures can you place in your city?
A:
Pretty much everything you’d need. You can put up taverns, town halls, crafting shops, general stores, and city walls.

Q: So people can attack your city?
A:
Cities – no. Battlekeeps – yes. After putting so much work into building a town hall and other structures, it would be no fun having someone destroy it all. Battlekeeps, though, are a different story, and are there solely for PvP combat. However, NPC characters CAN cause a threat. There may be some wandering NPCs to keep an eye out for.

Q: Do we have to constantly fend off attacks from the NPCs?
A:
No. Though you may have some hostiles in the area, you won't need to constantly be on guard in case they attack.

Q: Can we have both a battlekeep and a city?
A:
Yes. Battlekeeps are for pvp combat, while cities are not. You can have both a city and a battlekeep.

Q: Do cities have any functional purpose, or are they just a status symbol?
A:
Cities have plenty of uses. You can build your own crafting shops, or set up vending stores, where you can either have players man the counter, or have your own NPCs do it for you. Other players from other guilds will also be able to visit your city, so they can shop there too.

Q: So any player can come and go as they please?
A:
It’s up to you. If you build walls around your city with a gate, only guild members can enter when the gate is closed. If the gate is open though, anyone can enter and leave your city.

Q: Can we own our own personal private homes?
A:
Not per sé. There are buildings in the player built cities, but they are not private homes. This option may be added in a later expansion.
