Huxley is yet another MMORPG/FPS hybrid looking to compete. They are going to be up against Tabula Rasa, so that’s a tough challenge. Conflicts across a persistent world, players will be able to obtain new and exciting equipment that can aid their character, but fights won’t just be about who has the best equipment. Weapons, vehicles, and more will be involved. Actual FPS combat determines who wins and loses in the world of Huxley. Unlike Tabula Rasa, Huxley is supposedly heavily twitched based, and also revolves around PvP. Supporting their faction by contributing to large scale battles will be a central part of the gameplay.
Every shot has to be aimed by the player, and personal skill will count. I asked if the issue of maintaining fairness with latency was being accounted for if they were intending on providing a close to true FPS gaming experience, and if they planned to do anything specific about it. The answer I received was comical. I was directed to view their screen which was supposed to prove that it works perfect, and he exclaimed that it worked great. But all that was on the screen was a character running around, not in combat. This doesn’t show anything! Anyone who is familiar with any FPS that is online and competes knows that latency is a huge issue. Any sort of serious tournament is divided up into regions to account for this very issue, as even lagging a bit behind is a huge disadvantage.
Not much new could be gleaned from this, and the info was about as much as what they had on the website. Although, they do have some sort of cross platform intentions for the Xbox, in which the story will allow console players to flashback to the time period of the PC version, and participate along with them. By this point, I’m not sure if they have their act together if our guide just wasn’t too hot. If things go as planned for them, you can probably check this one out during 2007, too.
