Pre-Appointment
Having had a last minute schedule change, I thought that I was not as prepared for this set of Webzen games as I could have been. Fortunately, I had a little bit of free time before my appointment, so I scoured the net for a bit. Feeling a bit relieved when I noticed that there simply wasn’t much info on these games out there, I actually completed a decently comprehensive research in time. There were a total of 6 games listed on the Webzen Games website [http://www.webzengames.com/], MU (Continent of Legend), SUN (Soul of the Ultimate Nation), Parfait Station, PROJECT WIKI, HUXLEY, and APB (All Points Bulletin). For this adventure, Michael Sun was my teammate, and we set off to find the Webzen booth. But first, let me give you a brief summary on this company that is trying to break into the North American gaming market.
Webzen Games
Webzen was founded in 2000 in South Korea. In 2001 they launched their flagship game, MU Online, in Korea. A game that is very similar to a fusion of Diablo and MMORPG. Now Webzen plans to bring out several new MMORPGs along with expanding into the console market, as well as establishing itself as a serious competitor in the North American market.
The Booth
The booth itself was quite the show. With live performances going on, free drink booths, swag booths, and an immense amount of game stations… they sure were trying hard. After all, we had seen people walking around with those giant inflatable Webzen surfboards all throughout the duration of E3. One could say that their advertisement was effective. We met up with Bryan Davies, whom was the person to give us a tour of the games they had for show. I noticed that he appeared to be from an external agency. BENDER/HELPER IMPACT, public relations, marketing communications.
