Aion Introduces Faction Incentives

Posted Thu, Aug 30, 2012 by gunky

NCSoft, developers behind Aion, recognize that there is a substantial imbalance between the Elyos and Asmodian factions on a number of servers. To remedy this imbalance, they are offering incentives to the Asmodian side - ramped up rewards earned via leveling.

According to the announcement:

Our new program is designed to provide incentives while leveling to encourage new players to choose the Asmodian side. We tried to make the rewards as you progress to end-game be basically too good to pass up. We hope that this will get new people to roll Asmodian, as well as encourage older players to level that Asmo they started ages ago and has just been sitting around collecting dust :)

A list of the incentive awards can be found Here.

This incentive system is only part of a full solution - while it does generate increased interest in playing the less-popular faction for the rewards, it doesn't force those players to take part in the in-game politics and engage in the kind of behavior that builds proper balance. And these new "incentivized" players may not reach end-game, where the imbalance is most apparent, for a long time. However, it is a step in the right direction.
