WAR Bestiary

Beyond the six presented playable races in Warhammer Online there are a multitude of others that inhabit the Old World.  Ranging from vile undead, strange animals, and even halfbred races, the Warhammer World is filled with some interesting and dangerous species.  So for your consumption we here at TenTonHammer present the WAR Bestiary.

As more and more images are produced by EA Mythic this page will be updated to reflect what new monsters and races we may see in WAR. Right now this Bestiary contains basic information on all the images and concept images produced thus far, mainly from the perspective of the Warhammer Fantasy Battles game. If you have any contributions you would like to make, definatly feel free to email them to me!

If you are interested in discussing these different races in Warhammer Online then I would highly suggest checking out our very own "Enemies & Places" Forum over at the TenTonHammer Warhammer Online forums. You can find that forum by Clicking Here.

Monsters

1

Banshee

When evil women die their spirits can be brought back to haunt the mortal realm, typically returning in the form of a banshee these undead have the ability to kill with their lethal wail.  In the Warhammer World Banshees are typically found in the armies of the mysterious Vampire Counts.

a

Beastman

Divided between the larger Gors and the smaller Ungors, the beastmen are a barbaric race that inhabits the Warhammer World.  Typically residing in well forested areas, beastmen come out to raid the villages and roads of other races in hopes of plunder or attention from the Chaos Gods which they worship.

Beastman Bray Shaman

Acting as spiritual and magic leaders of the Beastmen society, Bray Shamans are leaders and magic users all in one. Often leading scouting parties in hunts against their enemies, seeing a shaman is often a sign of a greater Beastmen threat.

Bear

As with our world, the Old World also has its fair share of bears.  No fantasy world would be complete without the usual run of the mill bear roaming the country side looking for farmers to chomp down on.  Mmmmmmm  tasty farmer meat.  Beware as some high level zones will likely hold the ‘paragon bear’, the bear from which all other bears devolved from.

Bloodbull

Beastmen servants of Khorne, the Bloodbulls are those marked by the Blood God and hunt in his name.  Few are powerful enough to stand against the rage empowered servants of the Blood God, and even fewer can stand against a beastman who has dedicated himself to that service.

Boar

Boars are not only a decent meal in the Warhammer World, but are typically used as the mounts of Greenskin Orcs.  Often seen fitted with crude metal plates to act as armor, boars will often be the flanking force of a Greenskin army, not that the Greenskins know what flanking means…

Centigor

A different species of beastman, the Centigor is very similar to the often send fantasy Centaur.  A cross between a beastman and a horse, the Centigor fills the roll of cavalry in any beastman army.

Chaos Furie

Winged daemons of made from the fabric of the Chaos Gods, Furies are the skirmishing units of Daemon armies.  Not devoted to any Chaos God in particular and manifested of the forces of Chaos Undivided, Furies are seen working with almost any Chaos force.  Able to strike from the skies, it is in an adventurer’s best interest to kill Furies when the chance presents itself or be faced with a fearsome daemon able to harass their targets over extended periods of time.

Chaos Giant

When Giants are exposed to the magics of Chaos they begin to mutate into their own breed. As servants of the Greater Gods of Chaos, Giants are rarely seen used, but when they come it likely means that Chaos is in a full war march.

Chaos Spawn

The gifts of Chaos come at a high price, and sometimes that price can be too high.  For those who fail the test of the Chaos Gods, or try to take too much power too quickly, their eventual fate is to be turned into a Spawn.  A horrible mutation of flesh and magic, a Chaos Spawn has no emotion or thoughts of its own and simply moves to kill those who get in its way.

Chaos Troll

Mutated by the raw stuff of Chaos, Chaos trolls are trolls that have undergone a hideous transformation that makes them even more ferocious. Capable of sustaining their usual regenerating abilities with the enhanced powers of Chaos rippling through them, these trolls are not to be 'messed with'.

Dire Bat

Normally seen in the armies of Vampire Counts, the Dire Bat is a bat bred on the blood of the living.  Double to triple the size of a normal bat, a Dire Bat is a fierce flying opponent who shows no hesitation if under the command of a fearsome Vampire.

Flamer of Tzeentch

Powerful daemons of Tzeentch; Flamers are capable of spewing out fiery death at an alarming rate.  Empowered with the ability to float around the battlefield as skirmishing units, Flamers are able to sow chaos amongst the ranks of enemies while maintaining the sheer power of a Chaos daemon.

1

Flayerkin

First seen during the “Storm of Chaos” Flayerkin are twisted humans who have become siege weapons in the armies of Chaos.  Able to decapitate the sturdiest of foes with their sickle like hands, Flayerkin also excel at climbing the sides of castle walls to engage defending enemies.

Fleshhound

Favored daemons of the Chaos God Khorne, Fleshounds are a voracious opponent to anyone pitted against them.  Usually adorned with special collars that protect them against magic, Fleshounds are the shock cavalry in many legions of Chaos that follow the God Khorne.

Ghoul

More intimidating then the standard Skeleton or Zombie, Ghouls are one of the more gruesome undead that inhabits the Old World.  Feeding on the flesh of man, these cannibals move around in skirmishing packs preying on any weak opponent they can find to feed on.

Giant

Large and ponderous, the Warhammer Giant is known for being seen in almost any location.  Sometimes hired by forces of the Empire, or even beaten into submission by a tough Greenskin Warboss, Giants fight when needed.  Often distracted by taking “treasures” off the battlefield, Giants are just as likely to ‘jump up and down’ as they are to taking a swing at you with their club.

Giant Scorpion

Encountered in some of the more dangerous dungeons and wilderness of the Old World, Giant Scorpions are a threat to all races.  Empowered with giant pincers and powerful venoms within their stingers, Giant Scorpions are able to combat any normal sized being with ease.

Giant Spider

Inhabiting forests and dungeons of the Old World, Giant Spiders are simply that; spiders of a larger size.  Used as mounts for some primitive Goblin tribes, Giant Spiders normally do not have allies and seek only to keep themselves fed.

Gorger

When Ogres are born with no paunch they are sent hurtling below into the catacombs that underlay an Ogre tribes cavern. Living a life of anger and difficulty, the Gorger seeks only to feed on its enemies and tear them apart mercilessly. Acting alone for the most part, Gorgers are sometimes herded into Ogre armies for uses against the enemies of their former tribe.

Gryphon

Often raised in zoos around the Empire, Gryphons are reserved flying mounts for the elite of the elite.  Normally only seen used in battle by well stocked nobles or the leading Elector Counts of the Empire, Gryphons are powerful flying mounts that often form a bond of friendship from birth with their owner.

Harpy

Harpies are light skinned females with a reptilian like legs and large scaled wings.  Known as creatures of Khaine because they delight in the torment of others, Harpies are typically used as fast assault troops by Dark Elf forces.  Armed with only razor sharp claws, Harpies are known for killing their enemies and then feasting on their raw flesh.

Hellcannon

Part Daemon, part machine, the Hellcannon is the most technical innovation of the Chaos Warbands. Acting as their only piece of artillery, the Hellcannon is capable of effectively breaking down the walls of castles with little to no difficulty.

Horror

The Horror of Tzeentch is the standard footsoldier of the Tzeentch Daemon armies. Capable of unleashing powerful magic attacks, Horrors grow in power with the more of them that are present on the battlefield. Divided into Blue and Pink Horrors, on more then one occasion a Horror will break apart into two of its counterpart!

Manticore

Seen often in the armies of the Dark Elves, Manticores are usually ridden into battle by the fearsome Beastmasters of the Drucii.  A terrible flying mount, the Manticore inspires fear in its enemies as it can rip even the most stalwart of soldiers apart in mere seconds.

1

Plaguebearer

Associated with the Chaos God Nurgle, plaguebearers are disgusting daemons of pestilence and plague.  Normally seen with their entrails leaking out, and with a rusted blade in one arm, Plaguebearers are the foot soldiers of the Nurgle Daemon armies and are sometimes summoned by the warhosts of Chaos.

1

Rat Ogre

An invention of the Skaven Clan Moulder; the Rat Ogres are fearsomely bred and enhanced killing machines.  Normally seen with different attachments that range from claws, swords, guns, and maces, Rat Ogres are at the front of the Skaven armies fighting their opponents into the ground.

Rhinoxen

Large beasts of burden, the Rhinoxen are normally associated with the armies of the Ogre Kingdoms.  So large they can act as cavalry for Ogres, the Rhinoxen are also used to move around the crude constructs of the Gnobblars such as the Scraplauncher.

Saberbeast

Ferocious beasts with a good sense of smell and the ability to rip men apart with their teeth, Saberbeasts are not to be toyed with.  Tamed only by the large Hunters of Ogre societies, the Saberbeasts are typically wild beasts that hunt for prey and follow no master.

Screamer

Screamers of Tzeentch act as flying skirmishers for Tzeentch. With various different extremities that jut out from their skin, the Screamer is a deadly opponent even on a simple flyby attack. Screamers are larger then most common daemons, but in contrast they are still fairly fragile and can be brought down with concentrated effort.
1

Skaven

An amalgam of Rat and Man, the Skaven are an underground living race that secretly eats away at the other races.  As a society filled with backstabbing and intrigue, the Skaven are not yet a force that has come to the surface to swarm over all in their way…  but that day may soon come.

Squig

A common food source for Night Goblins, Squigs can only be described as “bouncing balls of claws and razor sharp teeth”.  If not eaten by them, Night Goblins tend to use squigs as weapons of war, prodding them into battle.  Some larger greenskins will go so far as to keep squigs as pets or additional weapons to be used.  Smaller Greenskins like goblins tend to train them into damaging pets for themselves.

1

Tomb King

Left overs from the ancient kingdoms of the Old World, the Tomb Kings are now waking up.  Leaders of vast undead armies, the Tomb Kings are powerful undead that are able to kill with ease and are said to be empowered by dark and powerful magics.

Treekin

Often in times of desperation the spirits of Wood Elf protected forests will inhabit the remnants of dead trees and animate them into a force of unstoppable nature.  The Treekin have the strength of trees with the anger of the spirit of the forest powering their unstoppable advances.

Tuskgor

Used to pull the powerful chariots of Beastmen, Tuskgors can only be described as Boars gone horribly wrong. Almost twice the size of a regular wildlife boar, the Tuskgor is an almost unstoppable force when hurtling forward at full speed.

River Troll

Found in the wild or in league with Greenskin armies; River Trolls smell so foul they often make their opponents gag when forced to engage them in melee.  Combine their smell with an awesome ferociousness and the ability to regenerate; River Trolls are a nasty find anywhere in the Old World.

Wolves

Wolves are your standard run of the mill animal that runs around killing wildlife and craving the taste of flesh. Every good game has Wolves running around!

Wraith

Wraiths are dark undead who were once necromancers in life.  Unable to fully keep themselves alive with their dark powers these men eventually lost their bodies and became shades of their former selves, trapped inside whatever clothing they had before death.  Living on as undead, Wraiths now hunger for the flesh and essence of the living.

War Hawk

The typical mount of Wood Elf forces, War Hawks are well know to enemies of the forest kingdoms.  Much smaller then a Gryphon, War Hawks are agile and small, often working in formations with other of their kind.

Wyvern

While seen in solitary, Wyverns seem to almost be like dragons in nature.  Winged reptiles that live away from normal society, Wyverns are sometimes subdued by larger and smarter Orcs who seek a suitable mount.  It is not unlikely to see a Wyvern as the mount of a particularly powerful Greenskin Warlord.

Yhetee

Fast moving creatures of the mountains, Yhetees are able to produce an aura of cold around them instinctively.  Using their breath Yhetees make crude ice weapons which they use against their enemies when they decide not to use their razor sharp claws.  Living in tribal states Yhetees are sometimes seen working with the armies of Ogres.
