SOE Awards G.I.R.L. $10,000 for game design competition.

SOE has awarded Julia Brasil of San Fancisco the top award for the 2008 G.I.R.L. Game Design Competition including a $10,000 scholarship to the Art Institute of California and a paid internship at a SOE studio of her choice. In a competition to promote students interests in creative and applied arts, SOE and the Art Institute hope to lead the next generation of game developers to create games catering more towards female interests.

As for Julia Brasil, she exemplifies what we read about gaming enhancing learning. From her Q&A on the SOE's G.I.R.L. website:

: What kinds of skills have you learned from playing video games?
A: English, for starters! Having played video games most of my life, they were instrumental in learning the language. On a secondary note, they probably helped with my puzzle-solving ability and abstract thinking as well.
