By the SAGA Developers

Something wicked has been stirring in the west. The daemons have failed
to keep the gates of the Underworld shut. The Undead are unleashed, and
Death is pouring out of hell into the lands of the living. The
Brotherhood has welcomed these fearless allies to battle the Order in
the unending struggle for world domination. The balance has been
restored, the sides are drawn, and the Saga continues…

A sixth race/faction has been introduced to the persistent MMO RTS game
SAGA. Meet The Undead. Opponents accustomed to ranged troops that fall
as soon as they are engaged in melee will be unpleasantly surprised
when facing the Undead. Skilled in magic like their Dark Elf comrades,
the Undead have enhanced the armor and attacks of their ranged troops
with wicked enchantments and more than one surprise for the enemy bold
enough to take the field against them.

Special:
"Fell Bolt - Next attack is made at +500% Attack Rating and does +100%
damage, -50% movement speed for 30 seconds.  Cooldown: 60

The bane of most ranged units is getting caught in melee. Ranged units
have lower armor and suffer more damage from melee attacks. The Undead
Archer, however, is not as vulnerable to a lone cavalry unit that may
break through the ranks. Using its Fell bolt Ability the Undead Archers
can greatly slow a charging unit, allowing time to inflict great damage
or escape.

SAGA determines hits by comparing the attacker’s Attack
Rating against the defender’s Defense Rating and adding a
random number to each. An ability such as the Fell Bolt almost ensures
a hit against any opponent.

Special:
"Cursed Volley - Ranged units in target radius (30m) suffer -50%
movement speed and -50% attack speed for 30 seconds. Cooldown: 60

To complement the defensive capabilities of the Forsaken Archer, the
Raider’s special ability is offensive. The Raiders are the
bane of any ranged unit, with a phenomenal 30-meter target radius for
the Cursed Volley ability, affecting multiple units if the opposing
commander isn’t cautious in his or her unit spacing.

The Undead Raider can also be an excellent asset against high damage
targets such as dragons and hero units armed with bows. While the
raiders may not be able to eradicate such a threat themselves, they can
effectively neutralize their target’s damage capability.

Special:
"Balefire - Units in target radius suffer 20-30 damage per
Diabolist.  Cooldown: 90 seconds."

These Undead spell-casting witches are a great asset to any Undead
force. Their special ability hits multiple units for tremendous Damage.
In SAGA, each troop in a unit takes full damage from an AoE (Area of
Effect) ability. While the Diabolist does poorly against single-target
high-health troops, it can quickly dispatch large volumes of weaker
opponents.

The Diabolist does low damage per attack, but deliver them in quick
succession, following up with a massive Balefire explosion. Their
special ability suffers from the same short range as their attacks, so
use another unit to distract the enemy while the Diabolists come in for
the kill.

Special:
"Regenerate Undead - Nearby units (25m) heal 45-50 hit points per

Every army needs a medic. The Necromancers can regenerate damaged units
for the Undead. While most medics need to carefully sneak around the
field, the Necromancers can hold their own. No other healing unit can
match the Necromancer for damage or staying power due to their high
health.

Not only do Necromancers heal well, but their healing is centered on
themselves, healing all units around them. Similar to AoE damage, the
necromancers heal each troop in a unit, so healing a unit with 12
Archers will result in up to 2400 total points of healing. Make sure to
gather your army around the Necromancers before setting off the
Regenerate Undead special for maximum efficiency.

Maximum style="font-weight: bold;">Unit Size: 1

Special: "Plague Shot - Enemy units in target radius (15m) suffer -50%
to attack and movement speed for 20 seconds.  Cooldown: 30
seconds."

Made from the skull of an ancient dragon, the Death Bringer is
extremely resilient, sporting more health than any other SAGA unit.
While it is doubly susceptible to both anti-cavalry and anti-ranged
units, fortunately most units of those types have only melee attacks.
The Death Bringer can use its Plague Shot Ability to either greatly
slow down charging units or decrease their damage by half when they
swarm around it.

For a huge war machine, the Death Bringer has a disappointingly short
range, about that of an archer. What cunning generals will notice,
however, is that this is a highly mobile siege unit, moved by dark
magic, capable of repositioning itself quickly and getting into proper
range when needed.

Special:
"Fear - Unfriendly units in 25m radius run in terror for 15
seconds.  Cooldown: 30 seconds."

A master of the Undead, the Lich is a fearsome foe. A unit that is
running in fear is as good as dead. Not only can a Lich use its fear
ability for 15 seconds out of 30 but it affects units in a huge radius.
Even dragons are not immune to this ability.

Fear is a powerful weapon, making a Lich a prime target for enemy
forces. Commanders will need to be judicious in Lich deployment if they
want to keep a Lich alive for an extended period of time. While it may
be tempting to cast Fear on a high-damage unit, it may be more prudent
to save the fear for those four cavalry units bearing down on your
archers. The AoE aspect of the Fear ability will ensure that all units
in melee range of the Lich can be sent screaming at a
moment’s notice.
