EverQuest 2 Fallen Dynasty Intro

Everybody was Kung Fu Fighting

by Tony "RadarX" Jones

I’m standing inside the SOE booth, and have just seen the amazing demo for Echoes of Faydwer. It will be really hard for Game Designer Steve “Moorgard” Danuser, to top that by showing the adventure pack, the Fallen Dynasty. As he begins his description, what he doesn’t know, is that I was in the booth previously for a Vanguard interview (/rude Gamespot) and snuck over to pester Associate Producer Erik Theisz about what I’d be seeing the Adventure Pack. I didn’t get to see a lot but I did get to ask some questions.

I have to admit, the Fallen Dynasty from a graphics standpoint, looks unbelievable. Moorgard tells me the same team that did the SOGA models (which yes I know some of you don’t like) designed the character models and helped with the zones. The village looks like something out of a Jet Li movie. From the traditional looking temple on the hill, to the junk floating on the edge of the dock, the detail is absolutely amazing.

Going further into the village you’ll run into a number of NPC’s who are training. While I was assured there were no ninjas, the students of the “Whistling Fist Clan” seemed to be practicing their martial arts. As we moved throughout the village we passed by more NPC’s wearing some of the new armor and weapons. The plate armor looked almost samurai like. I asked if they were going to put in a “HAI!” emote, but no joy. In addition to the cool armor, there will be 25 new weapons like staves, katanas, wicked looking swords, and even some maces (yes Templars I asked).

Moorgard went on to explain that this village will basically be your hub where you will find merchants, a banker, and begin your quests into the island. I asked if it was similar to Splitpaw, because it was wildly popular among the lazy soloer. He explained this was fairly different in the zones are overland and are much larger. I quickly asked about something I had seen earlier in the week, pig racing. It makes me giggle just thinking about it. Ever get tired of pulling the slot handle with the Gigglegibbers? Bet on a pig. You have eight choices, and the pigs randomly take off, usually parting you with your money.
