The content begins with solo quests and creatures, and as you progress deeper into the story (Moorgard seems to have done wonderfully with that) you’ll branch out into group-based content. We moved into the next area where I was shown a number of pirates and dryads, ripe for the killing. It was pointed out that the progression of that particular zone had the player climbing up progressively higher to get deeper in the zone. This means they have kept the climbing wall aspect. Oh! They have monkeys! I mean, they have monkeys, and I’m not excited in any way.
Finally our last stop was in a dungeon called Nizara, City of the Niyad. If you’ve ever not paid the $2 to see the snake lady, now is your chance. This dungeon is crawling with them, and they are perhaps ten feet taller than you. What was really interesting about this zone (it was contested but Moorgard tells me there will be an instanced version) was that instead of taking the traditional horizontal approach, this was vertical. Your goal was to find your way to the top, where the boss was. One of the fights I was shown took place on this giant stone dragon head. I’m not sure why they were fighting, but I think it was over a fortune cookie. An evil fortune cookie….that is threatening to take over Norrath!
Sadly, I have to say I’m as excited about the Fallen Dynasty as I am about the Echoes of Faydwer expansion. The theme is fun, the content looks like a blast, and the new armor and weapons are indescribable. Well, I guess that isn’t so sad after all. This content is designed for players level 55-70, and will be available as a digital download for $7.99 in June. I’m going to have to rent a few Bruce Lee movies in preparation, but look for the Fallen Dynasty next month and release your inner dragon.
