Savanja's Holiday Gift Wish List
Let’s play a guessing game…
My pants don’t quite fit, I’ve got a quart of eggnog in the fridge, and my neighbor spent WAY too long attempting to hang bright sparkly lights to the roof of his house. Do you know what all this means?
Does it mean that I’m getting chubby drinking calorie infused deliciousness while taking bets on if my neighbor is going to fall off of the ladder and onto his face? Good guess and yes, but it also means that December has finally arrived!
Why the excitement you ask? After all, it is just another month on our calendars, right? Fabulous question (you are very astute today!) and one might think that, but alas I am of the female persuasion and therefore I know the true meaning to the month of December.
This is the month of buying me pretty things!
The trouble there is I’m not really a “pretty things” sorta girl. I’m definitely more of a “Cheez-Its, Diet Coke, and Warhammer until 3 a.m.” sorta person, like many online gamers are, which can make gift giving hard for all of those that I know are dying to get me stuff. Like many gamers, I too am tired of receiving Hot Pocket coupons and questionable USB adult devices for the holidays so I’m going to do me and you a favor and share my Holiday Gift Wish List! Regardless of what holiday you celebrate or who you are buying for, I am certain you’ll find something just perfect for your own gaming god or goddess!
Savanja’s “I’ve been a Bad Girl but Please Santa Don’t Forget Me” List
| Tribbles
– I’m not even a terribly huge Star Trek fan, but EVERYONE should
remember the episode “The Trouble with Tribbles”. If you don’t, take
your hand off the keyboard and mouse right now, walk away, and don’t
come back until you’ve been properly geekified! These fun little balls of fluff are just stinkin’ adorable and would make a cute geeky gift for just about anyone. I’ll be getting one to perch on top of my monitor! Hopefully the humanoid calming effect will ease those minor outbursts of PvP ire. |

Newegg Gift Certificate – I’m a 96% PC gamer so I’m not all that interested in upgrades for my console gaming systems, but my PC constantly needs love! Maybe you have a pal who can’t upgrade just yet to play some of the more graphic intensive and memory sucking MMOGs, making this a perfect choice for a gift! Newegg.com carries hardware of all kinds that can boost a sad computer into gaming variety happiness. Give a friend an upgrade then get them my next idea! |
|
A Game – Well duh. We’re gamers right? Giving online games as gifts is one of my favorite ways to sucker my friends and family in playing games with me! The fact that it might give me more time to play is completely beside the point. *cough* Whatever game you play or whatever game you want to play, get two! Some games have their own stores and others will just give you recommended places to buy but you can easily find Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, EverQuest II, Age of Conan, and World of Warcraft (because I hear they need more players) to purchase online. While you’re at it, grab some game time cards for whatever game you bought and then your loved one will pretty much have to play the game with you!

Wireless Keyboard and Mouse – Because even if you don’t game from across the room while lounging on the sofa in your underwear, everyone should be able to! I have a computer set up in my bedroom and I’m not ashamed to say that sometimes I play Warhammer in bed and this nifty little tool is how I can! Wireless keyboard and mouse sets come in a wide variety of types and price ranges but basically you’ll want one recommended for gaming, blue tooth if the comp in question is capable and the best you can afford. These make very nice investments for yourself or someone close to you and should be a prized gift! |
| Chuck – Another “get tossed out of the geek club if you don’t like it” gift idea is this series. There are few television shows that I put equal to or above gaming in my free-time priorities, but this is definitely one of them. Aside from the fact that Chuck is an awkward accidental spy, he’s freakin’ funny and irresistibly cute. This show celebrates geekdom like no other! If this particular series isn’t your bag (shame on you!) then there is a plethora of other TV series and tons of movies out there that would be fun to own. |
|
In-game Goodies – Now I’ll admit that this might be my favorite gift idea but it is also the cheesiest. I had a reader e-mail me once asking for directions on how to obtain a special in-game weapon so that she could hunt it down for her husband’s character for his birthday. How sweet is that? It might sound overly simple but sometimes the best things in life are free! Sending your favorite guildmates and in-game pals nice items that they can use, offering to help them on quests, suffering through a mob camp for a major drop, or even spending extra time crafting stacks of potions or food and drink are all wonderful ideas for something that costs nothing. The virtual sky is the limit! If you have a loved one that games and you do not, you might even consider buying their game of choice for yourself and surprising them by logging in to play! |
| Premium Membership – This is a total shameless plug, but nonetheless, Ten Ton Hammer membership is another way you can show the gamer in your life that you want them to make the most of their gaming time so that they will finally take out the danged garbage! Besides the usual perks of membership-only content and super secret forums where our Editor-in-Chief has been known to post pie porn, we also have great contests that give a leg up to our faithful followers and beta access to some the most anticipated MMOGs! Nothing says “I love you” like beta keys, I promise you.

My list is just a peek at what you could potentially surprise the gamers in your life with, but it is just the tip of the iceberg! Be creative and be thoughtful and you cannot possibly go wrong.
