Now is a good time to go back to school anyway.

NYU has announced a gaming degree program under the purview of it's new NYU Game Center that will start classes next fall. Both undergraduate as well as graduate programs will be offered in the areas of "research. design and development of digital games" according to Crain's New York Business. I'm always interested in how these programs start, and this one got a boost in the form of an anonymous donor who provided a million dollars. This program is aimed at catching New York up to the rest of the country when it comes to the industry:

“It will do a lot to attract new students to New York and raise the city’s profile as a center for gaming,” said Tara Colton, deputy director at think-tank Center for an Urban Future, who authored a report earlier this year indicating that the Big Apple lags behind other major cities, including San Francisco, in tapping $38 billion video game market."

Apparently this is the only facility outside of Parsons The New School For Design (of Project Runway fame) that will have such a program for game development. That does seem odd for New York to be behind the curve when it comes to anything with design. For any of you looking for employment, now is a great time to head back to school and beef up your resume. Of course taking on more student debt is always fun too.
