Mythic delivered everal key patches for Warhammer Online this month, introducing the Knight of the Blazing Sun and Black Guard classes as well as a load of fixes and updates. But no one knows how far WAR has to go to achieve pre-expansion perfection than Mark Jacobs, who responded to a player-created expansion features thread on the VN boards with this:

"The expansion can wait a little longer but the main game can't. We are not pushing an XPack out the door at the expense of WAR. And once we begin work on an XPack, it's going to take us quite a while to do it. We're still at the talking stages and while we think we have some rather interesting ideas, it's not time yet to even go to GW to get their blessing. "

While Mythic's desire to get the core game right is admirable, this is fairly staggering news. WAR had one of the largest development teams I've ever heard of pre-launch (a not-so-spartan 300), and unless Mythic has a secret project in the works or has been quietly bleeding people (not really possible in this day and age), they must have the largest live team known to man. And I'm nothing like a producer, but I would expect that an expansion on the scale of Warhammer would take at least one and a half to two years to build once it comes off the drawing board, especially with the GW licensing concerns.

So, bottom line, we may see Star Trek Online before WAR: The Vampire Counts (not even a working title) comes out. Who would've guessed?

Switching gears entirely, the BBC is reporting that Muxlim Pal is the latest MMORPG... sorry, virtual world ... to cater to a particular niche audience. And what a huge niche the nation of Islam is. Medeor noted that Rappelz is catering to Muslim gamers as well. I'm a big fan of more client-side options to tame foul language and nudity (I honestly think it could be a selling point - what parent wants an MMORPG that you can't play around or with your kids?) and to each his own. But that said, to put a female Night Elf in a burkha would make yours truly a sad, sad puppy.

Today's the last day of the CME kids donation drive - with another $400 we could send ten families in need a $100 Walmart gift card. If 80 people (less than .03% of the Loading... mailing list) stepped up and gave $5, we'd be there. Please consider giving if you haven't, and thanks to everyone that's already given.

Shayalyn's Epic Thread of
the Day

From our WAR: General Discussion Forum

Open RvR Influence Change: Just Another Grind?

It
can be a challenge finding a good epic thread on a dreary Monday since
forum activity tends to drop over the weekend when all you wonderful
people decide to, I don't know...go out and have lives or something.
Despite your audacity at having weekend activities to enjoy other than
haunting our forums, I tracked down this oft-viewed thread from
our Warhammer Online forum for your Monday discussion pleasure. (You're
welcome.)

"I was extremely excited when I first read about the new changes to Open
RVR," says our community member, Marrowbane. "I envisioned huge, frequent, frenzied keep battles, clashes en
route to the scene of the fight, open field battles....

"...and what am I seeing? Huge, massive Order and Destro warbands
flipping keeps and objectives in the Tier 4 zones, scavenging every inf
point they can get before moving on to the next zone, but never
fighting each other."

Are
your experiences in WAR similar, or do your RvR clashes contradict what
Marrowbone had to say? It's Monday, so you no longer have an excuse for
being AFK. Head over to our forum to talk it up.
