Ten Ton Hammer - Taking MMO Gamers to the Next Level!

Cryptic Studios has given fans of the upcoming Star Trek Online a nice holiday gift in the form of the first in-depth look at one of the games multi-role ships – The NX-91001.  Though no specific ship class is mentioned, many signs point to this being the tech specs for a modified Sovereign class ship, or at least something very similar in design.

A starship designed to carry Federation influence throughout the Alpha Quadrant and beyond, the NX-91001 is one of the first multi-role starship designs since the Sovereign class was commissioned in the early 2370s. Able to function as a deep-space explorer with extensive sensors and laboratory facilities for scientific research, the NX-91001 also is outfitted as a heavy cruiser armed with some of the latest in Starfleet weapons technology for deployment in hostile areas.

One particularly clever member of the official forums also pointed out that this might potentially be a hint at a possible release date – 10.01.2009 (the numbers from the NX-91001 sequenced backwards)  Considering the shorter development cycle for Cryptic's other announced title, Champions Online, an October '09 release date doesn't sound too far off the mark.  Mind you this is all just wild speculation at this point, but if it proves to be accurate it would certainly be a much bigger holiday gift than anyone realized!
