Is Launch Day Really Launch Day?

You've been to the DDO.com website. You've read that today heralds the official launch of Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach, the MMOG you've been waiting for. But before you head off to your local retailer looking for a copy of the game, here's something you should know:

Launch day means that DDO shipped today; not necessarily that it will be in stores today.

Now, you've probably seen Turbine promoting the heck out of the launch of their game, but take note--developers tend to carefully state that the game ships on a certain date. Depending on how quickly your local game retailer receives their shipment, it could be a day or two before they actually have the product on hand.

I contacted BestBuy this afternoon, and they quoted me a "release date" of March 2nd. Wal-Mart didn't have a clue (although my guess is they'll probably have the game around the same time). EBGames and GameStop told me they would have the game tomorrow, March 1st. I'm certain these dates could vary regionally, so before you dash out to the store and demand your DDO fix, you might want to pick up the phone and make certain your retailer's got the goods.
