Taunt/Rescue has it's roots going back to text MUDs. The ability to rescue another party member that is about to die or isn't as suited to tanking is a key strategy in Vanguard. Given our desire to see combat involve less pulling and often involving fighting multiple mobs at one time, rescue/taunt is very important.

Personally whilst I love the game and the design so far, I think that getting rid of the pulling is a mistake. EQ2 has a similiar design and not only has it eliminated solo players from the play, it's eliminated the skill and finesse of our fine pullers. If you remember going into ToV with a great monk/ chanter/ warrior in your team you probably miss those days of great strategy as much as I do. Somehow the mobbing doesn't promote stealth and strategy.
