It's all About the Hype

MMOs, and video games in general, are all about hype, especially when they're in development, like Vanguard: Saga of Heroes is. Medeor tries to prove the usefulness of his expensive business classes by showing us the Gartner Hype Cycle, and discussing its effect on new technology. Where's Vanguard on the hype scale? Is hype having a negative effect on the game?

One of the side-effects of dropping off of the Peak of Inflated Expectations is that the sound of people jumping off the bandwagon can drown out the good news of incremental improvement. Think of the news that Sigil Games Online (SGO) and Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) are now co-publishing Vanguard. The reality of SGO actually getting more control over the production was lost in the noise of 'SOE is eating my game!'
