Time to Go Exploring

February 11th, 2008 - By Dalmarus

This week's newsletter is a little different than most in two ways. For one, players that read our forums regularly have most likely already read the majority of this letter, as I posted it this past Friday. Secondly, it's because rather then talking about what's going on in the world of Vanguard today, I'm here to enlist players not only a good amount of fun, but to also be available as a possible resource.

Before we get to all that though, I do want to point everyone's attention to Friday's poll, which has garnered more interest than I had expected. The topic? What do you think it should take to get a flying mount of your very own? The debate rages on, so be sure to read the article and then vote!

On with the show!

The Pitch

In an effort to hopefully generate more traffic for the main Vanguard Ten Ton Hammer page, I've decided to move ahead with the creation of a Ten Ton Hammer guild.

I hesitate to actually call it a guild, since that's not what I really envision it being, but for lack of a better term, that's what we'll use for now. Here's my vision (dear gods, I did NOT just use that term in regards to Vanguard!) for the guild.

Try thinking of it more as a source of information and our own Personal LFG Board rather than a guild. Ten Ton Hammer currently provides (at least in my mind) more Vanguard related content than any other site on the Internet. Even if I'm wrong in that statement, we certainly provide a ton of info. (Ok, that was bad, but would you have really been able to resist if the roles were reversed?)

While this is all well and good, I'm not satisfied with just putting out more content. I want Ten Ton Hammer to be THE place for Vanguard content. Since I have another full time job, plus a wife, I can't be everywhere at once. That's where the community comes in.

How many times have you wished you could go through and explore any given dungeon and pry the secrets from it's cold hands? How many times have you been irritated that the group you finally gathered to go somewhere breaks up after the first few rooms? There are a number of areas in the game many of us have never seen, or at least never been able to complete, and I find that a bit annoying personally.

What if you could be part of making Ten Ton Hammer that dream site we all want?

That's where the new Ten Ton Hammer guild comes in.

We will remember that this is a game first and foremost; it's what we're here to have fun with.

Exploration is the name of the game for this particular guild. As such, I'll also be using members of the guild for dungeon guides, spell updates, etc. This doesn't mean I'm going to be pestering everyone all the time, but if there are spell numbers I need, don't be surprised to get a message from me. Also, don't be surprised to get other messages asking for various information.

I'll be planning weekly or bi-weekly grouping times so we can go explore X dungeon to work up a guide for. These will be on a general first come, first serve basis, or if there's enough people, we may split into two (or more) groups. People could be taking various screenshots and send me their favorites, mapping out paths, etc.

The Gist

I don't expect people to make these characters their main (although that's always an option). Mains, alts, etc will be more than welcome to carry the Ten Ton Hammer tag.

All members will be required to register here on the forums and post a "Please invite me" message. Again, I'm hoping to get our own section built in the forums for this, so that will be of great assistance.

The Rules

So.... here are some ground rules. Know them, love them, live them.

1) No Drama.

I know that things will come up in general, as that's just life, but I am NOT a fan of drama. At all. The idea of this guild is to be relaxed, not stressed out, so try to settle issues quickly and quietly.

2) Need Before Greed

I can't stress how important this is to me as a player. I don't care if something the group finds can be sold for 80 gold if another member of the party can use it. This goes for characters currently in the party, not any alternate characters they may have.

3) Have fun

Pretty self explanatory. I don't want anyone to feel like this is a secondary job. Play 4 hours a night, or 2 hours a week, I don't care as long as you're enjoying yourself.

It's that simple folks.

Nothing But the Facts, Sir

Creation will take place on February 16th (time to be determined), but I'm still debating on Xeth or Seradon. The previous poll places the majority of interest in starting on Seradon. My characters are on Xeth, so there's a small tug to play there.

I don't want to leave anyone out that wants to join, so here's another quick poll to determine the location. Voting will close the morning of the 16th. I'll be going strictly off the votes for this, so if you really want the guild on one server over the other, make sure you vote and convince your friends to come register and vote as well.

Alright, enough rambling from me. Get voting and pester your friends to get out here and vote as well!
