The Final Countdown

August 11th, 2008 - By Dalmarus

In last week's chronicles, Aggro Management and You, I talked about some issues I've been having as a new Dread Knight within Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. That Chronicle has gotten some really good discussion going on the boards, with the highlights of those discussions being placed together in the form of a new Tuesday Tips Guide on Aggro Management later this week. Thanks to everyone for bringing up a lot of great points from both sides of the coin.

One item of particular interest that struck my as intriguing was the idea that instead of tanks creating a spell chucker as an alternate character, perhaps the various high DPS (Damage per Second) spell chuckers should take some time and create a few alternate characters to see what aggro tools the various tanks have. As I touched on last week, but have heard more about this week, it seems that Warriors have some pretty impressive hate generating abilities in comparison to a Dread Knight. Whether this is really true or not, I don't know. I'm hoping to get some time after Fan Faire this week to give a warrior a try and see if there really is a big differnce between the two classes in regards to their aggro management tools. I still have yet to here anything one way or another in regards to the aggro-keeping abilities of a Paladin.

TigereyeI'm interested to hear what the rest of the community has to say on the subject. Obviously, there will always be players of varying levels of skill spread throughout the game. Not only is this perfectly normal and expected, but I also think of it as a healthy balance within the game. What I'm curious to know though is if you think as an up and coming Dread Knight, should I be able to grab and keep aggro instantly, or should high DPS characters be expected to learn some aggro management skills of their own and give the tank a few health percentage points to get aggro? Let me know, because I'm interested to hear the different views.

That's enough for my Anti-Aggro Campaign this week, so let's move on to something everyone is either dying to get started, or is possibly sick of hearing about - Fan Faire 2008! Take a wild guess as to which side of that fence I fall on.

You guessed it! Fan Faire 2008, here I come and I can't wait. I've been playing SOE games for almost 9 years now. Ever since the Fan Faire's started, I've always wanted to go to one. For one reason or another during those years, it never seemed the right time. Schedules wouldn't mesh, or it came down to a simple matter of lack of cash, as I'm sure everyone here can relate to. Since becoming a member of the Vanguard team at Ten Ton Hammer last July, and then later becoming the Site Lead in November, it just seemed wrong to not try and make it to Fan Faire this year. It took a little luck, a supportive wife, and some penny pinching over the past year, but here I am - all set and ready to go! I can't wait to meet everyone. And remember, if you want to say hi, or tell me I'm completely off my rocker, this is your chance to do it in person so be sure to get out there!
