We Have the Power

October 13th, 2008 - By Dalmarus

Some would say that getting your spouse or significant other to play Vanguard: Saga of Heroes with you, or any online game for that matter, could be considered the holy grail of gaming geekdom and happiness. Others may say this equates to little more than some devious form of spousal abuse. For the folks that feel the latter description is more apt, I could argue that it can be just as punishing to you in your attempt to help, but not play the game for them, thus driving them off yet again.

In my infinite wisdom and genius (at least to me in that one shining light of a moment), I think I may have come upon a method that while having minor traits of deviousness may actually in fact be the answer we've all been looking for. At the risk of everyone tracking me down for a hanging though, I'm going to make you all wait until this Thursday to discover my method and the results it has garnered so far. Trust me folks, you're not going to want to miss it.

In other news, more changes have been made on the Test Server and the development team could use some help. This time, the call goes out specifically to all the Rangers of Telon. The new specialization system and Ranger pets have gone live on the Test Server. As such, Avair has created a thread requesting that any and all feedback regarding these changes be discussed there. Whether you have concern or complaints, optimism or praise, you owe it to yourself to get over there and check the changes out.

As I state nearly every time a major change comes to the game regarding any class, if you do not take the time to log into the Test Server, test the changes out, and then finish the process by giving the development team feedback through the requested channels (the aforementioned thread, a bug report, etc), then you will not find the slightest ounce of sympathy from me in any way, shape, or form. For those that do take the time to test and give feedback, my hat is off to you and you are to be commended.

Speaking of things on the Test Server, it appears that something may be in the works for some cool Halloween events this year. This past week, for a brief period of time, an island off the coast of New Targanor was populated with beasts galore. There's also a tale of an unknown terror being held back from entering the world. Some have complained that everything was removed, but I for one am happy for the removal. I want any events we have to be a surprise. I'll be fair and admit I'd like to at least have a general idea of the time frame, so I can plan accordingly. Due to my schedule last year, I barely caught the very tail end of the Halloween event, but since it falls on a Friday, I will hopefully be home in time to take advantage of the excitement!

In closing this week, let me get a few things out there I'd like the community to take a moment and let this stuff percolate in their noggins for a bit. There has been an increasing stream of negativity on the official forums recently. Some have claimed that it's not being negative, it's just speaking their mind about the game. I'll never argue someone's right to do so, but how about taking just a few moments to think about how you form your initial ideas or responses.

Personal attacks and elitism have no place on the boards. Many of the new players we've garnered over the last couple of months have been because the reputation of community has been so strong. I'd hate to see all that hard work and effort go to waste. The community is still better than the majority I have ever been involved with, but I know that it can get back to the smoother ride we recently enjoyed. Take a moment to think about what you're about to say. If its contents are less than constructive, do us all a favor and reword it.
