Weakness/Vulnerability Guide

by Zinn

What is a weakness?

It is a player created vulnerability in your enemy that remains for a short period of time. Some weaknesses can be exploited by using certain skills.

What does the C and E mean on the chart below?

C means you can Create the weakness by successfully attacking your enemy with this skill and E means you can Exploit the weakness by successfully using the appropriate skill.

How is a weakness/vulnerability created?

Players can create vulnerabilities in their enemies by using certain skills. The tool tip for a player’s combat skills and spells will show if ability can create a weakness.

How do I know if there is a weakness created?

You'll see tiny icons below the target's buffs and debuffs indicating weakness. Holding the mouse over these icons will give you a tool tip indicating the name of the weakness. As you pay more attention to these icons you should begin to recognize which icons are relevant to your class.

How long does a weakness remain?

Roughly 10 seconds before it fades.

What happens when I exploit a weakness?

You get an additional benefit. Often your damage is greatly increased, or the MOB is defuffed with a snare, an armor mitigation effect, or some other effect. When you exploit a weakness you also create a new weakness as most weakness abilities have the ability to create a weakness and exploit one at the same time.

Do weaknesses stack?

No. Although more than one weakness can and will show on the MOB I have not seen any added benefit to exploiting more than weakness. However, all vulnerabilities of that type are essentially used up when you exploit the vulnerability.

How should my group plan to use weaknesses?

Look at the chart below and see which weaknesses can be created and exploited by classes in your group. Ideally you will be able to chain weakness where one person creates a weakness then another player exploits it and creates a new weakness that can then be exploited by another class.

Do I have to use weaknesses?

No, but it is an option that can sometimes make your group more efficient. I am no expert with weaknesses and vulnerabilities but they are often fun to play with and give you something additional to do in combat. I try to incorporate exploiting weaknesses into the abilities I normally use during a fight.
