Forestry is a fun, profitable, and easy profession. This
gathering professions gathers wood and hides, processing these for use
by crafting professions. Half of your
products (namely hides) will be found just by adventuring, though it
does not hurt to go out and grind for the items. They are always
in
demand too. The other half of your products, namely wood, are not
in
great demand, and cost a little to make. But if you also have the
woodworker profession,
your going to want a means of gathering wood. The two vocations
that have the forester profession are Woodsman and Explorer.
Explorer is useful, if you plan another character who will have
woodworker profession, but Woodsman is able to make wooden weapons
using forester products directly.

style="border: 2px solid ; width: 250px; height: 173px;" align="left">As
a general rule, gathering hides and wood is easier than other gathering
professions (aside from farming). Usually, if you make a general
rule to pick up any nearby wood you can use while soloing, and to get
hides from nearby animals when travelling, you will have enough of both
these resources for your needs and for sale. Like most resources,
you will find that availability is based upon
levels. Specifically creatures dropping hides for their levels,
and
areas having nodes of wood for their levels. Note that because
sometimes you will find creatures of a higher or lower level in the
borderline areas, you can find, for example, hides of a higher tier in
an area for a lower level. For example, in eastern Evendim you
can
fine pristine (tier 4) hides, but only yew (tier 3) wood.
The resources here are used for tailoring, weaponsmithing (the hides
not the boiled leather end result), woodworking, and
metalsmithing.
There are more or less standard recipes for most forester components,
which are not particularly pricey. Note that all recipes have a
6% chance of a critical (once you have attained mastery in that
tier.) For Tier 4 or higher recipes, you must have an exceptional
workbench, which is available at Esteldin (North Downs).
For each tier, you have a different amount of tier points you must earn.
