A Chat with NetDevil

Part Two of Two

Now We'll Blow It Up

“We like blowing stuff up,” said Sherland, lead man of NetDevil’s upcoming physics-heavy first person shooter, Warmonger. “This game takes that mentality and pushes it to the extreme. We’re changing the way gamers will approach a level in a first person shooter.” According to Sherland, this would be an evolution in first person shooting based around the concepts of physics.

“We all have habits learned in hours of deathmatches: circle-strafing, hiding behind cover, and other things,” he said. “When you try to hide behind things in Warmonger, you’ll soon realize that the cover is not going to last very long against a rocket launcher.”

With any sort of change, gamers typically have to adjust before they get used to the gameplay. “Honestly, the first few hours are terrifying,” Sherland said. “It’s just relearning things that are so ingrained into our minds.”

While Ten Ton Hammer doesn’t typically cover first person shooters, there was more than meets the eye to this title. “This project is only our first step,” he said. “We realize that gamers now are going to need extremely hot machines to enjoy this game, and that’s why we partnered with AGEIA to make the title.”

“However,” Sherland continued, “Building this game is essential in making what we truly want to build…an epic first person shooter that functions as an MMO, but also has FPS, tactical, and strategic elements built in. If players win on maps or control a majority of maps, we want that team to receive bonuses in play. We want to make a truly revolutionary MMOFPS.”

But all of this is still just ideas and conjecture. With Warmonger not yet in the hands of gamers, it will be awhile before we see any physics-heavy MMOFPS titles from NetDevil. In the meantime, make sure you check back to Ten Ton Hammer and get all the details about the Lego brand MMO and anything we might hear about a new MMOFPS from NetDevil.
