Guide to Paladin Feats
Feats 21-30
By Nuitaran
A rating of 1 or 2 means the Feat is pretty much useless to a
paladin
and one that you probably want to avoid. A rating of 3 indicates
that
the Feat can be used with some careful planning, or with certain class
combinations. We reserve a rating of 4 only for those Feats that are
almost necessary picks for certain types of builds, or class
combinations. A rating of 5 designates the best of the paladin Feats
and ones players should seriously consider for any
DDO
Build for paladins.

21. Improved Feint
Official Text: “An attack which also Bluffs the enemies, enabling sneak
attacks for a short period of time.”
Prerequisite: Combat Expertise, Sneak Attack
Comments: Leave it to the rogues.
Rating:
1
|
22. Improved Mental Toughness
Official Text: “Increases your maximum spell points by 10 at first
level, and 5 spell points for each additional level.”
Prerequisite: Mental Toughness, Able to cast 3rd-level spells
Comments: Don’t bother with this a waste of a Feat.
Rating: 1
|
23.
Improved Precise Shot
Official Text: “Your missile attacks may pass through
friends and foes to strike your target. Foes between you and your
target might be hit.”
Prerequisite: Dexterity 19, Point Blank Shot, Precise Shot, Base Attack
Bonus +11, Received by Ranger 11
Comments: Paladins don’t make the best archers from a cliché
standpoint. You’d be better served spending Feats in areas that will
increase your melee ability.
Rating: 1
|
24. Improved Shield Bash
Official Text: "You keep your shield bonus while bashing with a shield."
Prerequisite: Shield Proficiency
Comments: Paladins certainly make incredible tanks if you are someone
who utilizes shield blocking and bashing. This is a great choice.
Rating: 4
|
25. Improved Shield Mastery
Official Text: "Increases the amount of damage you can absorb when
defending with a shield."
Prerequisite: Shield Proficiency, Shield Mastery
Comments: Just as with Improved Shield Bash, this is a great choice if
you are someone who utilizes shield tactics.
Rating:
4
|
26. Improved Sunder
Official Text: "Using this attack, you may reduce the target's Armor
Class for a longer time. Some creatures may be immune to the Sunder
effect."
Prerequisite: Strength 13, Base Attack Bonus +1, Power Attack, Sunder
Comments: This isn’t a good enough Feat to justify taking Power Attack.
Combat Expertise and Improved Trip would be a much better chain.
Rating: 2
|
27. Improved Trip
Official Text: "Using this attack, you may trip the target, rendering
it prone for a longer time. Some creatures may be immune to this
effect."
Prerequisite: Intelligence 13, Combat Expertise
Comments: Although it takes a lot of Feats to get here, it’s more
useful than Improved Sunder. This is definitely something to think
about for any melee class.
Rating:
4
|
28. Improved Two Handed Fighting
Official Text: "Increases the damage of glancing blow attacks when
wielding a two-handed weapon."
Prerequisite: Strength 17, Base Attack Bonus +6, Two Handed Fighting
Comments: I suppose if any class were going to specialize in Two
Handers, Paladins would be a good choice. With high Armor Class from
their Aura of Good ability and high Saving Throws, Paladins are
veritable defensive machines. It wouldn’t be a far stretch to sacrifice
some of that for a little extra punch on the damage side.
Rating: 1
|
29. Improved Two Weapon Fighting
Official Text: "Increases the number of attacks when fighting with two
weapons."
Prerequisite: Dexterity 17, Base Attack Bonus +6, Two Weapon Fighting,
Received by Ranger 6
Comments: With needs for high Charisma, Wisdom, and Strength, the
likelihood of meeting the Dexterity requirement for Two Weapon Fighting
feats isn’t so great. A Paladin would be better served focusing their
talents elsewhere. If you have a build that will meet the requirements
this could be the key to making one serious DPS [Damage Per Second]
fighter.

2

30. Iron Will
Official Text: "Grants you a +2 bonus on your Will saves."
Comments: Paladins have no need to be increasing already formidable
Saving Throws.
