Guide to Paladin Feats

Feats 61-67

By Nuitaran

A rating of 1 or 2 means the Feat is pretty much useless to a paladin and one that you probably want to avoid.  A rating of 3 indicates that the Feat can be used with some careful planning, or with certain class combinations. We reserve a rating of 4 only for those Feats that are almost necessary picks for certain types of builds, or class combinations. A rating of 5 designates the best of the paladin Feats and ones players should seriously consider for any DDO Build for paladins.

61. Two Handed Fighting
Official Text: "Increases the chance of glancing blows when wielding a two-handed weapon."

Prerequisite: Strength 15

Comments: I suppose if any class were going to specialize in Two Handers, Paladins would be a good choice. With high Armor Class from their Aura of Good ability and high Saving Throws, paladins are veritable defensive machines. It wouldn’t be a far stretch to sacrifice some of that for a little extra punch on the damage side.

Rating: 3
62. Two Weapon Blocking
Official Text: "Increases the amount of damage you can block when defending with two weapons."

Prerequisite: Two Weapon Fighting

Comments: If you’re going to go dual wielding, this is one of the Feats you should consider, but Two Weapon Defense is far more useful.

Rating: 2
63. Two Weapon Defense
Official Text: "Grants you a +1 bonus to your AC when you wield two weapons."

Prerequisite: Two Weapon Fighting

Comments: If you are going to be Two Weapon Fighting this Feat is a must to keep your Armor Class reasonable.

Rating: 2
64. Two Weapon Fightingpaladin
Official Text: “Reduces the penalty for fighting with two weapons.”

Prerequisite: Dexterity 15, Received at Ranger Level 2

Comments: With needs for high Charisma, Wisdom, and Strength, the likelihood of meeting the Dexterity requirement for Two Weapon Fighting feats isn’t so great. A paladin would be better served focusing her talents elsewhere. If you have a build that will meet the requirements, this could be the key to making one serious DPS [Damage Per Second] fighter.

Rating: 2
65. Weapon Finesse
Official Text: "You use your Dexterity bonus instead of Strength bonus to determine bonus to attack with one or more of the weapons below."

Prerequisite: Base Attack Bonus +1

Comments: You should only be taking this if your Dexterity is higher than your Strength and you will be using light weapons; otherwise this is pointless.

Weapons included in Weapon Finesse: Dagger, Handaxe, Kama, Kukri, Light Hammer, Light Mace, Light Pick, Rapier, Short Sword, and Sickle.

Rating: 2
66. Weapon Focus
Official Text: "Provides a +1 bonus to attack rolls when using [weapons of the specified type]."

Prerequisite: Base Attack Bonus +1

Comments: Absolutely a must-have in any weapon you plan on using regularly. You aren’t doing damage unless you are landing hits, and this is a great way to ensure that you are landing hits.

Rating: 5
67. Whirlwind Attack

Official Text: "Activate this ability to attack all enemies in a 360 degree arc around you."

Prerequisite: Base Attack Bonus +4, Combat Expertise, Spring Attack (Dodge, Mobility)

Comments: It just takes too many Feats to get here for a Paladin. That makes me sad. I love this Feat.
