Alternate Cleric Builds in
DDO?

By Ralsu

The cleric is a vital class in Dungeons & Dragons Online:
Stormreach (DDO). Here at DDO @ Ten Ton Hammer, we've got reviews of
cleric spells, a cleric creation guide, and cleric Custom Builds. Rest
assured that even more cleric content is on the way! We love clerics so
much we declared the week of July 17-23 2006 Cleric Week.

Going into Cleric Week, we reviewed our existing content on clerics,
making notes about what we wanted to update and what we still needed to
do. We scoured DDO forums all over the Internet to see what DDO gamers
had to say about clerics. As we researched, we found a familiar debate
alive and well: the role of clerics aside from healing.

No one disputes the healing mastery of a cleric in DDO, but after that
axiom opinions start to vary. Some posit that a cleric should stand
there and be pretty when not healing. They say that attemping to melee
only distracts the cleric from her real duty: keeping the other members
of the party alive. Others demand that clerics use their combat talents
to contribute to damage. These people argue that clerics get self-buffs
and heavy armor for a reason. To them, a cleric who doesn't melee is a
cleric who only gives 50% to the party. When we looked at our Custom
Builds, we found that most of our clerics tend toward the second camp.
What do you think?

Is there room in DDO for anything other than a healbot?

  • For sure. Alternate builds are great. That's part of the
    fun of Dungeons & Dragons.
  • Maybe as an alt. Alternate cleric builds are fun for a few
levels, but DDO is not D&D. You need to be able to heal in the
    endgame.
  • No way! Healbots for the win!
