Champions Online's Bill Roper recently took the time to answer a few questions for Gamesource about Cryptic's highly anticipated superhero-based MMORPG. In the interview, Roper talks about the reasons for the recent announcement that CO will be delayed until September, explaining what the development tea will be working on in the extra time they have been given. Roper also talks about the games music and the challenges with porting an MMOG to a console while offering his view on the next generation of MMOGs set to hit the market within the next two years. The possibility of alternate pay models is also discussed and will likely be a hot topic with many communities.

GS: Talking about method of subscription: any news about a mix between a monthly fee and an item shop, like SOE Station Cash, for example?

We’re launching with a subscription model, but are open to alternate methods of delivering different components – not just with Champions Online, but from a company-wide perspective. A real strength of Cryptic is our focus on core technologies that can be shared by any of our games. This means we can look at different methodology in terms of delivery methods such as digital downloads as well as alternate means of charging for content that expands the game in different ways.
