Heroes actor Masi Oka has negotiated with DreamWorks Pictures to produce a movie he conceived about a group of teenage MMORPG gamers that come together to be likely heroes in a real-life adventure. The movie titled "The Defenders" will also have a video game created simultaneously by DreamWorks. Oka came up with the idea while playing an MMORPG, to which he is quoted as saying, "You can be whoever you want to be," he said. "The question came to me: What if you had to live up to the person you created in the virtual world?"

D.J Caruso is in talks to direct the movie. He is known for such works Eagle Eye, Taking Lives and has many other films to his credit. The production date has yet to be announced, nor has the type of games that The Defenders will be. However, if it is an MMORPG, it could be the first game of that type to be developed simultaneously with a movie.

DreamWorks has picked up "The Defenders," a family adventure project conceived by "Heroes" actor Masi Oka to be produced by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. D.J. Caruso is in negotiations to direct, and Gary Whitta is on board to write the script.
