Hellfire Peninsula Leveling Guide

Welcome to TenTon Hammer’s Horde Outland Leveling Guide. This guide starts with you being either level 58 or level 60. Don’t worry if you’re a level in-between or a little bit ahead. Check out this page for instructions and our top hints for leveling up.

The first step you’re going to want to take is to go through the Dark Portal. This starts with the quest “Through the Dark Portal” available outside of the Dark Portal in the blasted lands. Take the road south of the Nethergarde Keep to arrive at your destination. A representative of the Horde is here who offers the quest.

The next step is to walk through the glowing green portal into the Stairs of Destiny in Hellfire Peninsula. Here you’ll be given the followup quest Arrival in Outland which leads to Journey to Thrallmar. This quick quest chain will reward you with some experience and a flight to Thrallmar. Go ahead and accept the flight and journey to the first major quest hub in Outland.

Once you’re in Thrallmar turn in “Journey to Thrallmar” and accept “Report to Nazgrel” which leads to “Eradicate the Burning Legion”. Turn that quest in and get “I Work for the Horde!”, “Bonechewer Blood,”  and “Felspark Ravine”.

Our first goal is to get the new gear available in Outland so we can withstand the next series of quests. Our first quest combo will “Bonechewer Blood” and “I Work for the Horde” both of which are done right outside of Thrallmar. Pretty easy. Get the blood from the Bonechewer Orcs and the wood/metal from the ground. Once this is finished head over to (63,36) and kill one Dreadcaller, four Flamewalker Imps, and six Infernal Warbringers. There shouldn’t be much difficulty in that. When you are finished head back to Thrallmar and accept “Burn it Up for the Horde!,” “Forward Base: Reaver’s Fall,” and “Apothercary Zelana.”

Let’s get “Burn It Up For The Horde!” done in a jiffy. (55,53) for the Western Cannon and (60,52) for the Eastern Cannon. They’re hard to miss and right across the ridge outside of Thrallmar. Once done, feel free to return and turn it in.

Head to Reaver’s Fall (65,43) and turn in the quests there and accept “Disrupt Their Reinforcements” and “Spinebreaker Post”.

Head to (70,45) for the first portal you need to blowup for “Disrupt Their Reinforcements” and start farming demons until you have about three Demonic Rune Stones (you’ll get the fourth generally clearing the second portal out). Destroy the first portal and then head to (74,38) and destroy the second one. They need two stones each, but they’re easy to come back. Return to Reaver’s Fall.

Turn in the quest and accept “Mission: Gateway’s Murketh and Shaadrez”. This is a simple bombing run where you have to destroy two portal portals. Click the item and then the ground on the portal and you should be done in no time. Return and pickup “The Abysmal Shelf.”

“The Abysmal Shelf” is an easy bombing run, but you need to be quick. If you fail to get all of the targets within the designated time you will find yourself having to go through the long flight again. Once that is complete turn in the quest, receive “Return to Thrallmar,” and then head back over to Thrallmar.

In Thrallmar accept the quest “Forge Camp Mageddon.” Go to (65,29) and start killing Gan’arg until you have ten of them. If you see Razorsaw go ahead and kill him too, but be sure the area around him is clear otherwise you’ll get your face smashed in. He will drop a quest item (Burning Legion Missive) that’ll give you the quest “Vile Plans.” It’s a 100% drop. When you’re done return to Thrallmar.

Pickup the quest “Cannons of Rage” and “The Assassin.” “Falcon Watch” should also be available at this time. Return to where you were at (65,29) and kill the cannons until the quest is complete. Return to Thrallmar and pickup “Doorway to the Abyss”.

Go to (53,27) and kill Arix’Amal and use his item on the nearby gateway. Make sure it’s clear around him before you pull otherwise, like Razorsaw, he’ll smash your face in. Otherwise he’s an easy to kill mob. Again, return to Thrallmar and turn the quest in, but SKIP Cruel’s Intentions. It’s a difficult elite and we’re skipping all group quests.

Walk to Spinebreaker Post (the southern part of Hellfire Peninsula) or take the bird at (66,43) at Reaver’s Fall. Here accept “Boiling Blood,” “Make Them Listen,” “Preparing the Salve,” “The Warp Rifts,” and “Wanted: Worg Master Kruush.”

“Preparing the Salve” can be done now. The Spineleaf are directly outside of Spinebreaker. When you have completed getting them (you can put it off and do it at a later point or just get them as you walk around) you can turn it in and get “Investigate the Crash.”

Go to (49,74) and get “In Case of Emergency…”

(pick up broken parts all over the ground) and “Ravager Egg Roundup.” I personally skip the Ravager Egg Roundup and pickup the parts while I do the next couple of quests. When you have the parts just run it back whenever you have time. There is a followup that will take you back to the Warp Rifts (50,80) which is easy and simple to do. Any other followups can be skipped.

Head towards (65,78) and kill the Unyielding there to finish the quest. A Myseterious Tome will drop which will give you the “Decipher the Tome” quest. Feel free to run back to Spinebreaker at any time and turn the quest in to get “The Battle Horn.”

Once you have “The Battle Horn” head to (54,83) and finish it there.

Return back (“Make Them Listen” should be done by now) and get “Bloody Vengeance.” Go to (63,77) at the ramp and use the horn. Ghost will help you so feel free to back up and let them get agro on the enemy.

Return to Spinebreaker Post and get “Honor the Fallen.” Run to (56,77) to turn the quest in. You’re now finished with this quest line. Oh, and feel free to drag any enemies to the quest turnin. You don’t need to bother killing them.

Head to “The Warp Rifts” at 50,80 and enter near a purple glowing thing and use the generator to spawn voidwalkers. Kill three and head back to Spinebreaker Post. You’ll be given the followup “Void Ridge.”

Go to Zeth’Gor (65,70) and kill orcs for their blood. You’ll need to boil the blood in the cauldron at (65,70) for it to qualify as a proper quest item.

While you’re here go to (68,75) for “Wanted: Worg Master Kruush” (you can also get blood while walking there). When these two quests are done head to (77,68).

At (77,68) you will be in The Void Ridge. Kill the voidwalkers here for 40 shards. The collapsing voidwalkers will explode, so back up when they start channeling. When you’re done run back to Spinebreaker Post.

Turn in all of your quests and get “Zeth’Gor Must Burn!,” “The Eyes of Grillok,” and “From the Abyss.” Go to 81,78 and use the item to spawn Baron Galaxis. He’ll come with two adds, but if you focus on him you shouldn’t have much of a problem. Head back up to Zeth’Gor.

At Zeth’Gor you need to kill peons for torches. Get four torches and go to the forge on the western side and use it at (69,69), (69,70), (69,79), and (68,73). While there, use the item given to you on an Eye of Grillok that you see roaming about. Once done, return back to Spinebreaker Post.

The only followup should be “Grilok ‘Darkeye.’” Go to (64,70) in front of the cauldron and kill his two guards that pull separately. Then pull him. He’s pretty tough, but any class should be able to solo him. Return to Spinebreaker and you’ll be given “Apothecary Antonivish.” Now is the time to finish the Spineleaf/In Case of Emergency/Voidwalkers Gone Mad quest line if you haven’t. Instructions above.

Return to Thrallmar (via a flight) and turn in “Apothecary Antonivish” at (52,36). He’ll give you the quest “A Burden of Souls”. From here go to Hellfire Citadel and kill the Shattered Hand Orcs up and down the ridge or around the base until you have 20 souls. Walk back to Thrallmar and you’ll get the quest “Demonic Scryer”.

Go to (44,51) and use the item. An event starts with imps and orcs spawning. Kill the imps and orcs until the scryer is finished doing whatever it is that it does. Talk to it to get a quest complete. Return to Thrallmar to get “Report to Nazgrel” which should be turned in for some free XP. “The Foot of the Citadel” is a group quest we’re going to skip.

You should be about level 61 now. If you’re not, it’s alright, but we’re about halfway done with Hellfire Penninsula. We have one quest hub (Falcon Watch), one quest line (the Mag’Har), and one mini quest hub (the Cenarion Outpost) left to do. That doesn’t mean there isn’t a lot to do!

I normally get rid of the Mag’Har line first. Make your way to (33,34) and wait for the quest to complete for “The Assassin.” Talk to the corpse (how does that work?) and get a “A Strange Weapon.” Walk south to Falcon Watch and take the flightpoint back to Thrallmar or just walk back to Thrallmar. Once back at Thrallmar turn in the quest and accept “The Warchief’s Mandate.” The Farseer is right outside and she will take that quest and turn it into “A Spirit Guide.”

Go back to the corpse (33,34) and use the wolf item. Follow it until you’re inside their village and get the followup to that called “The Mag’Har”. From there you’re going to want to walk all the way back to Thrallmar where you’ll get “Messenger to Thrall.” I hold that quest in my log until I go back to Orgimmar to get my spells and skip the followup.

With that done, it’s time to move on to Falcon Watch. Either fly or walk there (it’s south of the corpse, the big Blood Elf tower, you can’t miss it). Turn in “Falcon Watch” and pick up “Report to Zurai,” “The Great Fissure,” “Trueflight Arrows,” “Helping the Cenarion Post,” “Birds of a Feather,” “Arelion’s Journal,” “Source of the Corruption,” “In Need of Felblood,” and “Magic of the Arakkoa.”

Let’s get the quests with the birdmen (Arakkoa) out of the way. Go to (26,73) and start killing birdmen and looting nests. If you get a female bird use the cage on it. There will be a Blood Elf NPC in a cage who will have a ? on the map if it’s up. Walk over to the cage and speak with the trapped Blood Elf who will give you “Road to Falcon Watch.”

This escort is very easy if you’re good at multiple enemies and will complete “Magic of the Arokkoa” or get you almost done with it through the birdmen you’ll be fighting. Follow the NPC killing the birdmen as they spawn until you get back to Falcon Watch. Here, turn in any quests and head back to finish up the “Birds of a Feather” quest.

On the way stop at (22,68) for a bag on a purple rug. It’s for the followup “A Pilgram’s Plight.”

On your second trip into the den make your way up to 25,75 (getting any bird nests looking for the female) on the second floor and fight Avruu. He’ll drop Avruu’s Orb which gives the quest “Avruu’s Orb.” Go to 29,81 deep into the den and use the orb.

It’ll spawn Aeranas. Fight until he gives up and turn the quest back into him. As long as “Birds of a Feather” is done you are now done here.

When you leave head to (30,63) in the Great Fissure and kill eight Whelps and 3 Alphas. Stop attacking when they turn red and look for the Alphas up on the ridges and hills.

When you’re done, return to Falcon Watch and turn in all of your quests. Pick up the quest “Marking the Path.” Go to the various beacons (29,60) West, (34,59) Central, and (36,65) Southern. Light them and fight the Stonescythe that spawn. When done you can turn the quest in if you wish.

Go to (15,52) where the Cenarion Outpost is located. You’ll get the following quests here: “Demonic Contamination,” “Keep Thornfang Hill Clear!,” “The Cenarion Expedition,” and “Colossal Menace.”

This guide rarely goes over elite quests. However, Colossal Menace is a soloable one for healing classes. If you are a class that can solo give it a try. Use your heals and damage attacks and kill the smaller creatures when they spawn. It’s just north of the camp and can’t hurt to try it.

For “Demonic Contamination” go to (24,54) or really outside of the camp and kill Hulking Hellboars for the blood. You’ll need six of them. Turn that quest in for “Testing the Antidote.” Return to where you were killing the Hellboars and use the item on a boar which will turn into Dreadtusk. Kill it and you’re done.

While in the area go to (21,42) and kill Bonestripper Vultures for eight tail feathers. They come in clumps if you’re not careful and are attracted to corpses. So kill them away from the big group of birds.

Now it’s time to go to the Pools of Agganor. Head to the pools (east of the Mag’Har) and kill 10 Terrorfiends, get five Felblood from the Terrorfiends, and kill slimes for Arelion’s Journal. Smaller slimes can drop the book.

When done head to (15,58) and kill the Taskmasters for 5 Demonic Essences. But wait there is more! If you go to the quest giver at the entrance of the zone he will give you a quest to find Naladu. Sneak past Arezeth the Merciless (he does leave the top of the stairs) and go to (16,65). You’ll get a quest called “A Traitor Among Us.” Go to (14,63) and get the key. Return to Naladu and get “The Dreghood Elders.”

Go to (15,58) for Akoru, (13,58) for Aylaan, and (13,61) for Morod. Return and get “Arezeth’s Demise.” Use the item on Arezeth and he’ll become “the powerless.” Kill his powerless self to end the questline here.

The last official quest that I would do before heading to Zangarmarsh is Keep Thornfang Hiill Clear at (13,51). Kill the critters there and return to turn in all of your quests that you’ve done.

Optional follow-ups include Arelion’s Secret. Follow the road between Falcon Watch and Zangarmarsh until you see a Blood Elf named Aledis. Talk to him, defeated him, and turn the quest in. I always skip the followup since it requires a trip to Zangarmarsh.

Another optional followup is The Cleansing Must Be Stopped. Go to (39,40) and a group of Draenei will spawn. They can bubble and heal and there will be three of him. You only need one of them dead so try to focus on DPSing him down.

You should now be done with Hellfire Peninsula. If you started at level 58 then you should be at least level 61 now. I started at 58 and did one instance run and was level 62 and a half with some rested experience. Your mileage may vary. Continue on to our Zangarmarsh guide from here.
