WoW.

All's quiet on the western front:

There must be a new game launching somewhere because the amount of
WoW QQ heard round the world has definitely settled down to a
dull roar. Besides the upcoming bonus to battleground XP as discussed
next door in the Blue section, there aren't a whole of wins and losses
this week.

In yet another way that Blizzard is showing off how easy the game is,
there are achievements for beating encounters in substandard gear. A
Tribute to Insanity is one such achievement. I am not sure that Tiger
Woods would trade in his clubs for some rentals as a way to make
winning harder, yet more satisfying.

Shiver me timbers, I hate Pirates' day. This is just insult to injury
now that Brewfest is going on. Wake me when it's over.

The
Pandaren Monk pet is cute and all that, but the Core Hound Pup is where
it's at - I want to get one of those!

I love it when they spell it that way...ouch, my eyes, it burns!

Monday's have
nothing on Pirates' days.

If Blizzard uses faction transfers as a way to keep me interested, they
use things like Pirates' Day and Brewfest to send me screaming towards
the likes of Champions Online and Aion. My hatred of the events is well
chronicled so I won't trouble you with the details, but let's just say
my wife doesn't expect any presents on silly things like Secretary's
Day either. Save your emails extolling the virtues of these events,
you're not going to change my mind.

With that out of my system, it's time to take inventory on the latest
happenings. First off, there will be maintenance on Tuesday so go ahead
and plan some meetings or attend class. Odds are high that patch 3.2.2
will go live during the maintenance so if you want to complete Onyxia
in easy mode, today may be your last day to do so. The new gear from
the Ony encounter are awesome of course so that will be well worth your
while to jump back into the cave and watch out for the whelps (many
whelps, handle it, Now!).

Last week I discussed how cool I am (guess I could use this line every
week), when I said I'd have three level 60 characters that were all
leveled together using the Recruit A Friend tactic. What I failed to
mention is that the characters look worse than most gold farming
characters. Very little gear, no spells or flight paths, and no skills.
I'm starting from scratch only at level 60, ugh. The Druid was my
natural first choice due to flight form and the fact that weapon skills
are meaningless (I'm not looking forward to leveling the Hunter and
Rogue weapon skills at all). While it's nice to have three characters
into the 60s, it seems like a brutally long road from here on out (even
though I know it's not hard). The Druid got to 62, and Hellfire is
quite easy with flight form, so I'll probably finish that one off. It's
been a fun experiment in any case.

The Lightswitch

I finally figured out what kind of PvP I enjoy. It's not the mono y
mono Arena style punch your face off. No it's the group thing. I like
the group thing (careful we're talking about Battlegrounds here). Once
we could earn XP through playing in battlegrounds I realized how much
fun they are. As long as you turn off the BG chat channel and just
enjoy the fun, the XP bar fills up quickly. Even if you leave the chat
turn on, it seems to have mellowed out because everyone in there is
leveling now. How competitive can you be in Alterac Valley really?

There was a time when a loss would seriously jeopardize my evening if
not my week, and now I lose and re-queue just to do it all over again.
I don't mind getting my backside pwned off by four level 78s as I try
and catch up to the group. That's ok, because the next time I'm with my
buddies we'll get one of their "sickly gazelles."

Not that there's
anything wrong with that...

I know that we would never play another game, right? But let's just say
we did. Which game would it be? Obviously href="http://www.tentonhammer.com/co">Champions Online
launched
a few weeks ago and href="http://www.tentonhammer.com/aion">Aion
launches tomorrow, but would you go that route or go back to a game you
used to play (like href="http://lotro.tentonhammer.com/">LotRO
or EQ2)?

My needle of choice lately has been a combination of Champions Online
and now Aion. I like to try all new games and then determine which one
is worth my nightly fun and monthly money. For five years (almost six)
the answer has almost always been WoW. Except for a few months of
taking breaks or trying out another game, I've had at least one WoW
account going (sometimes as many as three).  I've now culled
my accounts down to one and have to admit that I'm enjoying some
different terrain these days. I'm such a fantasy fan that I don't know
if I will ever warm up to men in tights. CO is fun, and I'd recommend
giving it a look, but Aion is also a change of pace, and I'm enjoying
my time there as well.

After all that is said and done, I'll see you guys for the raid on
Ulduar Wednesday though.

Last but not least, I see the Race Change button is now on the Account
Management screen, so that option may be going live with the patch or
maintenance tomorrow. Check in for details if you're into that kind of
thing.

Before we leave off for the week I wanted to let you know that I'll be
taking a bit of a hiatus from writing the Overpull. After I'm done with
therapy you may see me back though!

Is Pirates' Day the best day ever? Are you gobbling up XP using RAF or
the BGS? Are you going to change the race of your character? If you try
another game, which one is it these days? href="http://forums.tentonhammer.com/showthread.php?t=46475">Let's
discuss in our forums.

Have a great week, and as always thanks for reading.
