The latest responses discusses the various types of buildings players can place in controlled territories such as offensive and defensive buildings as well as administrative. These buildings each serve different functions and will require guilds to choose what resources and factories they use, but if you're looking to expand your influence into the wilds, the administrative buildings are being added to eliminate the need for players to visit cities by providing them with access to the market.
